This was really well done, super polished. The graphics made it feel like I was playing an actual PS1 game. My sole complaint is I wish there were more moves/items to use to vary up the gameplay a bit.
Amazing job!
Thanks for playing! We tried to capture the feeling of a PS1 game as best we could, it makes me happy to know so many people enjoyed that part. We'll definitely be adding more gameplay elements in a full release when we pursue that.
Thank you very much for the kind words! You're right, adding a magic system of some kind would really spice up the gameplay, we'll keep that in consideration for further development!
Very Cool, i absolutely love the music and it fits so well :)))
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! 🤘
I like the theme and how well you show it through UI choices. The gameplay was intuitive and the music helped with the immersion. Good work!
Thanks for playing! The UI work done by dyve was great, I totally agree.
Hell yeah man, this was great and I loved the music!
Thanks for playing! 🤘
Funny game with cool art style and design ! Idea of the game the best ! ;D
Thanks for the kind words, and thanks for playing!
Nice job! I enjoyed the death screen music a lot and the intro story and the starting level text added a nice level of polish to it. It was really fun building up combos, too! The idea of each wave coming from behind a door but also the mystery doors you could open was a nice way to handle the theme!
Thanks again for playing Untangled! And congrats on finishing the jam!
We felt those non-gameplay elements were integral to the experience of a classic PS1/PS2 style game, so we made sure they felt authentic and cool! We had plans to justify the doors further with a big bad "door demon" but things didn't pan out.
Likewise! Thanks for playing!
DUDE this is amazing, im here to compliment the music taste! i love how first its lore connected and like we are all doomed etc, but then one decided to step up the game and fight till death, my doom adrenaline kicked in with that rock music, reached wave 10! such a good game man well done
Hell yeah 🤘
It's great you took notice of the lore, and that it enhanced your experience! I'm glad you had fun, thanks for playing!
Love all the attention you gave to the lore part! Also , the graphics are really cool, the audio is very fitting and overall the game is fun. Good one!
Lore credit goes to dyve! I think it's super cool too, and we have so much more that didn't make it into this release. I'm glad you enjoyed the game, thanks for playing!
Give the best thank you hand shake to the composer. Great stuff. Loving the art direction you went for and the throwing of the sword. Good job everyone!
Thank you! With the atmosphere we were going for we were a little doubtful we could find church music that fit the game but we struck gold with what we were able to find. The songs we used are credited on the page in case you're interested in checking out the composers! (Elegy DM, the song used for the intro, is particularly great)
Fits perfectly :) Yes will definitely check them out!
You have some very nice ideas in there! In particular, you made getting a high combo with the dagger really satisfying. Evaluating the risk/reward of whether or not you should go and catch it, or keep your distances, was really fun. Also the game looks awesome and has so much style. I loved the intro. The only downside was that I found the enemies' attack ranges to be a bit hard to evaluate.
I'm glad you enjoyed the dagger combo system, and the visual style!
We had higher ambitions for enemy design but had to scale back a little unfortunately. Something to improve with further development!
The aesthetics of the games are very well made, loved the concept. Gameplay wise it was a bit stiff, the character was too high on the screen and not moving the feet was missing for me. Would add a bigger reaction on enemies and the player when being hit and also some screen shake to the base game. For the gameloop, it would be great to reach safe zones after a number of waves and be able to upgrade your arsenal.
Great work!
We will definitely keep all this in mind for a future update to the game. We really appreciate the feedback, thanks for playing!
Banger soundtrack :D
I would've preferred a better interpretation of the theme but maybe I missed something?
The combo system is pretty nice and rewarding, I had fun throwing my dagger (?? It's a bit big for a dagger xD) on enemies, managed to get Saintly :D
Really good job at remaking these late 90s, early 2000 games aesthetics!
Thanks for the praise! We put a lot of effort into presentation! I wish we could take credit for the music, but all audio is licensed from various souces, we still made sure to grab what fit best though!
Good work getting a Saintly combo - it's hard to catch sometimes!
As for the theme: We started with the core idea of monsters or helpful items spawning from doors - while we kept that core, we ended up choosing to put most of our effort into refining the whole experience to make a solid enjoyable game. That's where the whole *doors sliding on rails* thing came from, and we had initial ideas for a "demon of doors" to be the big bad as well, but it didn't end up in the final release. So, I understand your comment on this!
Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!
This game rocks! Literally! ⭐
🔥🤘Thanks for playing!🤘🔥
Great game, love the death screen and the old graphic style, the combat is good, the level enter text(the Lust) is the best, could work more on the player movement animation.
We appreciate the feedback! I'm also a huge fan on what my collaborator dyve came up with for the death screen and level enter text!
She floats partially due to time constraints and poor prioritzation on the player's animation set on my part, this is for sure on the docket for an updated release!
Thanks for playing!
I'm so glad you liked the UI!
This is so unique I wish I had these design skills haha
I can thank a great team effort and close collaboration for that - but don't knock yourself! It wouldn't be nearly as well held together if it was done solo.
We appreciate the thoughts, thank you for playing!
I absolutely loved the combat mechanic! Great game!
Thank you!
Fun fact: Of all things, the dagger bouncing mechanic was inspired by Draven from League of Legends!
Loved your game and it really creates that old games vibes. Keep it up man !
Glad you liked it! We will!
this looks like an absolute PS1 classic. Great jam submission!
We tried our best to nail the style! Thanks for playing!
Very fun game, really loved the vibes and the UI. Great job!
