Great art and music, really cool concept, fit the theme and fun to play :)

Congrats! Great Work!

Really cool and unique game! Love the aesthetic and music as well. Feel like theres a lot of potential here with the game design, hope you take it further!

I couldn't play the game, it is too big for my screen.

Developer

Seems like you found another browser related issue. Can you please tell me which browser you are using, so I can reproduce and fix it?

Anyways, if you want to play the game, Firefox is a good choice.

You music is a bop! And the aesthetic of the game is very appealing, those floating head guards freaked me out!

It seems like you already know what needs to be fixed here: gathering materials is simply too slow, movement in town is too slow, and some inventory bugs. For what it's worth I couldn't build anything after the campfire because I couldn't find more books.

The interactive tutorialization of mechanics is well done. I think you also have an interesting idea on your hands. I think it would be very cool to play a game where you have to resource gather in camp, improve my character(s), and looting for other items at night in a high-risk-high-reward environment.

In my opinion, I think gating resources behind improving your character, with items, books, or whatever else, is fantastic. And that you can find the upgrades you need in the city, or another area. It would have been cool to see myself grow, improve, and move on.

Keep making games! I would love to see this idea expanded and improved.

James - wow, thank you for taking   so much time giving me your thoughts on the game. I highly appriciate! It will think through all of this, taking some mental notes - either for my next game or for impoving this one. I did some games already - every time, guys like you are helping me with their feedback, taking me to the next step - this is so awesome!

Regarding the missing books (you are now the 2nd one pointing at this): It takes several visits / lootings to find them. I have a list of high-priority items - in a certain order (axe, hammer, tape etc...). Every time the player picks up one of them, the next one  on the list will spawn in the next round. The books are coming fairly late - thinking about this again, I think they should have come earlier, to keep motivation through reward up.

Thanks again! Enjoy the rest of the Jam - wish you best luck.

Really like your art style here and the gameplay looks interesting.  I could only play the beginning because it just becomes all black screen after entering the looting phase.

Developer

Happy to hear you like the art! About the black screen: The game  at night only renders fine in Firefox browser, Chrome doesn't interpret the mask I was using, ending up in a black screen.

A really nice game! I loved the Art and Music, and I was especially impressed that it was done all in JS. Only issue for me is that I didn’t find out the books to go further in the game… I will surely try it again because it makes me want to play longer.

Developer

Yeah! Web tech for the win! My heart is always bleeding, when I ready about HTML5 games - and all that makes them "HTML5" is  the Canvas API. There is sooo much goodness in JS, CSS and HTML -  it is a truly beautiful  liaison of technologies.

About the books, I left a note in  this comment here (they spawn fairly late): https://itch.io/post/5743406 So if you want to give it another try,  looting town at least 4 times or so is needed to find the first book. (Secret hint: Don't throw away the tape, it will be needed ;-) )

the gameplay was a little hard to figure out at first just by what exactly you needed to do and in what order.

the music was great and reminded me of the wii esk music you find in sports titles or sim games

I couldnt figure out the loop mechanic but I dont believe in giving low scores for jams as pretty much every game is a game loop.

origionality : I havent played a game yet thats similar to this one its very unique

The art was good and like the hand drawn aesthetic. Its not AAA quality by all means but it also isnt clearly made by a novic such as myself. I wish their were animations

Thanks for your extensive feedback. Really appriciate that :-)

Gameplay and design were very good. If only he had used the available resources when producing the materials. It could be in the storage only, food and forest .

Developer(+1)

Thank you :-)

I was planning to  convert resources in inventory to materials (and cooking  raw food the same way) - but time was running away like crazy. So I had to take the short cut - thanks anyway for re-assuring this would have been a more interesting way to do it!

Any chance to fix the browser issue?

Developer (1 edit)

Sure. But only after the Jam - submitting during the Jam rating period is usually not allowed.

A fun game with amazing art and sound. I'd love to see this developed further. I can easily see this being turned into a full released game at some point

Developer

Thank you :-) Always makes me so happy when people like my art. Music compliments I hand over to Isabel who did an amazing job!

Indeed, I  have many more ideas of how to make the game experience more complete and  diversified. Like cooking different recieps with all the incredients I already prepared, farming veggies etc. There is a "Complete your game" Jam, where I might take everything one step further.

Lovely art style, and interesting mechanics, nice blend of boardgame with survival and crafting.
Sadly i seem to get stuck in looting, so i end up skipping it, altho in the screenshots i see its light related, altho i do have both a lighter and a lit fire. so i feel with a bit more trial and error i would be able to get through it.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback :-)

I developed the game with Firefox browser (it's developed with native HTML, CSS and JavaScript), and only had a short climpse here and there with Chrome browser. Turns out this wasn't a good idea, I missed the critical bug you ran into :-/ The CSS mask effect that "lights" the looting area around the character only applies in Firefox, but not in Chrome.

I will add this important information on the game page now. Sorry for the inconvinience and thank you for reporting this issue .

great art and cool tabletop feel! i got stuck whenever i tried to loot though since i wasn't sure how to use my lighter

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks :-) The tabletop feeling is exactly the kind of experience I was aiming for.

Please see my comment above regarding your issue in looting phase. It is caused by a bug that occurs in Chrome browser :-( If you have Firefox installed, you can also play the looting area.

I spotted your game already. Such a great hand drawn art style - yeah! Will give it a try in the evening - really looking forward to this!
