How does your game represent "Power"?
In Turbo Turtle, speed = POWER. You must generate enough speed to be able to knock away large enemies, being able to maintain high speed means you are powerful enough to stop the crabs from attacking your nest!

I savea da turtle eggs :)

Took me a while to get used to it but it was quite fun when I did.

Took me a minute to get the controls but I LOVE this take on the theme, such a novel concept! The music and effects when you're going super fast are so amusing, I had a great time with this one

Submitted(+1)

Love the concept! With just a few tweaks this can be great (things like adding audio of the impact with crabs and fixing the hills collision that makes you spin around like crazy). I'm all for these crazy ideas! Ahah

Going fast is so fun! Those Blue crabs are really tough, I think some more visual indicators for whether or not you can currently kill would be useful

The speed was so fun in this, I loved flying at mach 2 around the island and slaying the crabs. I especially liked how much control I had at high speeds while holding shift, but I wish clipping the edge of a hill didn't kill my speed. The mechanics feel like they'd be so fun in a racer! Excellent interpretation of the theme, this seems like it was a blast to make!

Thanks, I'm glad the controls turned out nice! I agree on the hills, I wish I implemented something to maybe automatically disable Shift  momentarily when approaching a slope. That way you slide up instead of rubbing into the pavement!

Quirky and entertaining.
It would go so hard with the addition of SFX and Particles I bet.
Very unique playstyle too.

Only gripe with the mechanics is that I feel like I lose control too much at high speeds, and slowing down at that point feels futile.
Make the jump a bit higher and perhaps add a way to brake (I think would be good).

My recommendation with tight deadlines/game-jams is to have placeholder sounds in place as soon as possible
(like the moment you have coded a jump, add a jumping sound) because I also understand that doing everything solo is a lot of work, making sounds often come last in line.

Keep it up.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yep, I wish I gave myself more time for SFX, those last-minute bugs crept up on me.  What good is volume control without any sounds!

I agree going too fast can become too chaotic. There was a way to slow down, but turning arcs became too slow the faster you were moving. Part of me wanted to experiment with scaling the turning radius with speed, but it might make for some violently fast turns haha. I might revisit it if I update the game later!

The speed lines and the camera FOV pulling back gives an amazing sense of speed. I did find myself holding shift pretty much 24/7, would also love if you could launch off of slopes!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I wish I implemented a way to momentarily disable Shift when approaching slopes, cause right now it causes you to collide with the hill instead. That might make slopes more fun so you don't have to let go of shift to launch yourself!

I loved it, super fun and very cute! The slopes make weird things happen xD I had a lot of fun, loved the idea of the turtles!

Developer

Thank you! Those slopes were the bane of my development haha.

I got so high up that i made the turtle fly across the map! Hahaha this is fun!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it haha!

hilarious!! whoever thought of the speed lines nailed the vibe

Developer

Thanks! The speed lines were a fun addition to make :)

This is a fun little game.  I was thinking of working on an F-Zero style racing game and this gives me those good vibes  =)

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

Satisfying controls, I'd love to play a time trial level were you race to the finish!

Developer

Glad you had fun! A timer and some race tracks sound fun to add next!

I had fun controlling the rocket-powered turtle that just kept gaining momentum. However, there were a couple of times where I would spin out of control with the camera, despite that, I enjoyed the gameplay and the music, the aesthetics looked good on eyes too. Bravo :D

Thanks; I'm glad it was fun! Yeah, the spinout plagued me throughout the development. I think it's the shape of the collider I used. It's the first thing I'd want to fix in an update!
