I never seen kaplay.js before. Good performance and game loaded instantly. The gameplay was too slow and too easy for me. Without skill shots, dashes, or fast movement, I didn’t have much to do. Slowly walking to pick up xp from harmless enemies felt like a chore. The enemies didn’t get tankier or faster moving fast enough to be threatening. The ring of damage killed enemies too easily.

idea guy idea:  Add long-range artillery skillshots to vampire survivors. Mix kog’maw from league of legends with ravagers from starcraft 2. Player has to kill far away enemies with artillery, but is harassed by weak close up enemies. Weak close up enemies die easily, but are there to distract and waste your artillery cooldown on nearby enemies instead of far away important enemies. Defend multiple far apart bases with skill shots while staying alive in vampire survivors. Enemies run towards bases and player.

Or just copy Bunny survivor. Buns: Bunny survivor is my favorite VS with skill shots game.

Damage balance for this weapon was outright copied from VS garlic weapon. OP for early game, almost useless for late game.

I'll definitely look into it.

The art is nice, monsters are very creative - but the game is extremely early/raw.

1) "Figured out" mouse controls before I could figure out keyboard controls. Mouse control is awful and I assume it's just some sort of a leftover? Walking animation doesn't play when you use mouse to move.

2) Web version is wonky. Graphics are too pixelated until you zoom out - then they "adjust" themselves to look better and not overly scuffed.

3) Upgrades are alright, but they are kinda underwhelming. Start is extremely slow, seems to be slower than the monster spawn rate - which makes it hard to reach the midgame where you are not struggling for survival.

4) Good job with monster progression, even managed to reach the boss. Didn't kill it though.

5) Grass texture gets too repetative at some point.

As others said - it doesn't stand out from other Vampire Survivors, unfortunately. Needs some sort of hook or a gimmick to make it interesting, because right now it's kinda meh.

1. Mouse control is just side effect of virtual joystick code, it wasn't supposed to work with mouse at all.

Watched your stream and as always, your comments in process helped a lot to understand about my flaws. Thanks to you and your co-hosts. And kudos to folks in chat, who quickly recognized Guilty Gear music.

Production is great: nice art (handsome squidward spider monsters are neat), bitchin’ music, and seems to run smoothly with a screen full of enemies.

But echoing others: it needs some kind of twist on the Vampire Survivors formula to make it your own. Otherwise, it just feels like a simplistic reskin.

Below you said you’re not an ideas guy, so here’s a few ideas:

  • A different way to earn weapons: maybe the player has to explore the map to unlock them, and levelling up is just for base stats
  • Items you can drop on the map, tower defence-style, to help you out. Things like gun turrets or shield generators
  • More reasons to explore the map: find CPU-controlled players who can fight alongside you
  • Some kind of variation on the movement, like a dash or roll with iframes, or sprint limited by a stamina bar.

Perhaps terrible ideas, but hopefully they’ll help you think of something. Either way, looking forward to seeing progress.

First two of your suggestions are already in VS, they've added a lot and still add more stuff. CPU players and dash is okay overall, but kinda breaks game flow in case of VS-clone. I'll try to think of something either way.

Main point is I agree with GasGod, it needs SOMETHING more to not be Yet Another Survivors Like. Even if you're not an ideaguy, try to think of something to set it apart. Free GimmickTM: what if the different weapons were different items of clothinng you would see on the protagonist: really lean into the anime coomer market.


1. Very nice pixel art, though I some nitpicks. First, I feel the protagonist is too detailed compared to the enemies, almost giving the impression of mixels. Maybe you could make her a bit more simplified? Second, I think the background is a bit too noisy. The screenshots look significantly worse than the actual gameplay IMO, and I think that's part of it. The enemies are the highlight for me.

2. Mouse controls are really weird, seems like it's centered a couple of inches to the right of the protag. IMO just scrap mouse controls, what kind of psychopath wants to control a survivorslike with their mouse?

I was going to add different set of clothing to grind with ingame money, but it's for way later versions. And about mixels - I've tried to simplify design, but that's as far, as i can go for now, maybe rework it later.

Mouse controls will be scraped, it wasn't supposed to work at all.

Technically competent, nice pixel art. Only direct feedback I can give:

  • The death transition is really sudden. Would feel better staying on the game a bit more.
  • If you use the mouse to move, your character stops animating.

Death transition is planned. And mouse is rudimentary of virtual stick implementation. Probably will cut it off completely, since it creates only problems.

There are already a ton of VS games in the world. What are your plans here? Not crabbing, curious to see what gimmicks you wanna bring to the genre

It's just I do what I can do. I'm not good at game design and ideaguying, so I've just chose to make clone of really popular genre with every skills, that I have. Gonna add some more tits and pussies, but that's about it. Tits and pussies are nice.
