Hi!
This was a really great retro feeling game. I liked the multiple camera angles and the turn based combat was also implemented great.
The map felt kind of empty though. All enemies swarm you at the start of a level and then you just run around looking for a chest.
I think adding multiple chests per level and adding an aggression range for enemies would probably help.

But overall great entry!

Excellent game! I really enjoyed playing through the levels and loop was consistent. One thing I would improve is to make it so I can hold down space to regen faster (atm I have to mash space 200 times every time I'm out of combat).

Well done!

I massively respect the amount of UI work. Alas, my eyes are almost exclusively drawn to the little square in the top left corner. The game's fun, though!

Pros:

  • You really nailed the gameplay loop. Feels very authentic and satisfying to play.
  • Aesthetic is awesome. Although the game at its heart is Roguey and quite simple, the stuff you've added on top of it really makes the game really immersive.
  • Lots of content, such as enemy and item variety.

Improvements:

  • You could allow the player to hold down a key to make multiple moves in a row. As it is, theres  quite a bit of button mashing for healing and moving in straight lines.
  • The UI in general is quite well designed. However, I would recommend adding some outlines or different backgrounds behind different parts of the screen (e.g. the Stats panels and the rest of the game). As it is, they blend together a bit, making it harder for the player to focus/find what they are looking for.

Bugs:

  • If the player has no skills, the Skill panel just comes up as a Close Button. Perhaps Grey out the button instead.

Exceptional submission. I'd definitely recommend working on this game more.

Great job!

I like it. This old-school camera is a little bit odd. But it's a solid dungeon crawler with roguelike elements.
