What worked:

The visuals work really well and give a creative and unique look to this game. The feeling when the light finally runs out of stuns is pure bliss. I now know how final bosses feel when I keep foiling their plans.

What didn't:

If I don't keep the light in my field of view, there's a good chance I'll take the wrong dead end and have to go all the way back up, losing the light. This is fine as a lose condition innately, but how I got there ends up being making one mistake, then losing to "pick-a-door" when I get to a fork. This part doesn't feel very good. Maybe add a trail to the light? Also giving the boss some skill based abilities to help could be a fun idea, especially if you plan on expanding the idea. This way there's some counter-play (unless I missed something) to being stunned repeatedly or taking the wrong path.

Bugs:

Didn't see any.

Great job!

Really great game!

This game has a really fun concept, and I think the fisheye lens adds a lot to the look of the game. My main criticism is how tight the timing is to hit the light when you catch up to it. It's hard to tell when I should be hitting the attack button, since there's no attack animation or anything, and getting it slightly off means that I completely miss my opportunity to attack, which is frustrating after chasing the light for ~15 seconds. That being said, if it was trivial to hit the light whenever it's coming at you, then the game would probably be way too easy, since it's not too hard to corner the light. Maybe it would need to have more health or go faster as it takes more hits to balance it out? Also on a separate note, there was one time that I was on one side of a wall and the light was on the other side, but I still got hit and stunned by it, so there might be an issue with the size of the light's stun hitbox. If you can come up with a good way to lessen the annoyance factor of the light constantly stunning you without making the game too easy, then I think this will be a really good game!

I absolutely loved the faux cylinder rendering of the gameplay, the art is nice and the music really fits the fast pace chase feeling

Developer

Thank you! :D I put a lot of thought into making everything come together like that, and I’m glad it did for you. Have a great day :)

Nice game! Pretty difficult but well done! I won in 2:48min

Developer

It is certainly tricky haha! I’m glad you liked it :)

It's really hard to navigate through the maze with its constant turns... Not sure what the attack does as well since nothing happened apart from a sound. The maze navigating part of the game is cool and I wish it was more like you have to find the correct path before the time runs out! That would've been really fun with the fisheye effects!

Developer

Hi! I agree it is a difficult game, especially if you lose track of the Light early on; I’d recommend restarting the level (‘P’) if you lose track and want to try again.

For the attacking, you have to be within a certain distance (about 2 tiles if I’m remembering correctly) in order to hit the Light, otherwise you are too far away to succesfully hit. I plan on adding a visual indicator for this if I update the game after the jam is over :)

Apologies if you lost track of the Light early on and were confused on what to do; “you have to find the correct path before the time runs out” is actually how I would describe a large part of the game – except instead of a timer running out, it’s if the Light is further than 100 tiles away, at which point it is considered to have “fled”.

If you would like to try out the game again knowing this now, I would really appreciate to hear your feedback again and a reconsideration of the game’s mechanics! If you have any personal suggestions on how I could make the gameplay instructions more clear, I’d love that too!

Thank you, and have a very nice (insert your time of day, haha) :D Sanjowolf, from Celestigate Games

Hi, I did understand the core mechanics of the game to catch the light but I was unsure about the damaged part. It'd be awesome to add the attack indicator since this would make for a good niche game! Thanks for explaining the mechanics in detail tho!

Regarding the second part, the "timer running out" was more of a suggestion from my side for a new game that uses the same mazes but without the light. It could be that among the dark mazes (ant tunnels, you need to find your way out into the light! That'd make for incredible fun game!

You too :) Have a great day (?) ahead!

Thank you very much for your feedback! If ever I update the game after the jam I’ll make sure to add visual indicators to improve the player’s experience and help make the game a little more intuitive :)

Great game! I loved the music and art/visuals, the gameplay was good too. Although I must say, I dont think E is the most comfortable keybind for attacking enemies

Developer

Thank you very much!! If I may ask, what keybind would you have found more comfortable? :)

A fun little game. I liked the fish-eye lens effect. It was a bit confusing at first, but I did get it eventually. I feel that if the players attacks were indicated visually somehow the game could be more fun to play.

Developer

I’m glad you found it to be a fun little game :D If I had extra time to polish the game, adding more visual decorations and animations would definitely be one of the first things I’d do :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! I’m glad you figured it out eventually haha :)
