Wow, wow, wow! Blown away by the creativity here. Such an fun idea and a breath of fresh air. So glad you participated and that we got to play your game. Love the tile checking after the timer goes off. SO many fun little mechanics.

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

I see lots of people enjoying the game and I’ve also enjoyed the music so far :) I’m getting stuck on this early screen and I’ve tried using directional buttons and 2 different browsers (Chrome + Safari). Not sure what I’m doing wrong but I’d happily try again if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

Developer(+1)

Sorry about that! Use the Z key to skip text! The controls are displayed under the game, it's made for Gameboy so it's a bit awkward.

Thanks I gave it another go and had a great time. The music is engaging, really adds to the rush to finish the drawing. I didn’t notice at first that the rectangular block had only 2 states and I was trying to rotate it until it filled the left side instead of the right. I think that’s the only shape that can draw differently depending where your cursor is inside the cell. Did you consider making that behave like the others and rotate twice to fill the opposite side of the cell instead? Great entry, I quite enjoyed this!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it
My original thinking was to make the triangle also work by pressing in a certain corner of the tile, but it was really fiddly. The rectangle was much less fiddly, so I left it. I also chose not to make the rectangle rotate to all 4 positions because I thought it would be confusing and hard to show the player, but it is confusing both ways, so I am rethinking the rectangle for future versions. Thank you for the feedback!

Pretty good! Nice mechanics!

This is a really fun concept! I loved the music and the art style, and the way the faces are generated is clever, with there being certain templates that are slightly rearranged so you can't ever just memorize a face type. Maybe this was a failing on my part, but I couldn't get more than 2 sketches each round. Maybe it's my perfectionist brain and lack of pixel art skill, but I think being able to change the speed of the brush OR increasing the time limit would help a lot to make people feel like they have a little more control over how many sketches they can complete. As is, I didn't really feel like I was getting any better after the first two tries.

Great idea for both the theme and the jam limitations, great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! It sounds like maybe if the brush wasn't so free and instead clicked between tiles, it might be a bit easier?

Thank you for playing though, I'm glad you had fun!

Submitted(+1)

clicking to the grid tiles sounds like it would be  heaven for me, but maybe also messes with the  ability to sketch in specific halves of the tile.  But if you could make it work I think it's a movement I would definitely like.

Developer

Yeah, I would have to figure out a system that would work for the halves as well, but if it would be heaven, it's worth a try!

awesome game! really wished the timer is a bit longer though

Developer(+2)

I understand that, yeah. I think I will make a second version of this game that has a variety or difficulties, timer length and canvas sizes so that anyone can enjoy it! Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

awesome!

Submitted(+1)

I was thinking the variety of timer lengths could help. Adding the different difficulties and canvas sizes sounds like a great addition.

This is a really good and well polished game! It is a fun, creative idea that is executed very nice! Awesome job!

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Great idea. Innovative and easy to understand (despite me being initially very bad at it). Excellent entry.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Amazing game! Even though I'm not very good at it, I still had a very good time playing! The only thing I'd change is that the dialouge inside the game says x and z, but for mobile players it's a little confusing. Great job!

Developer(+1)

You're right! I forgot about mobile players! In the GameBoy files it says A and B, I should probably make it say "A(z)" and "B(x)".

Super fun, but the margins were a little too tight to get past a second image. I'm guessing theres techniques like placing the shapes with a priority order and reusing parts from the last sketch.

Really good art tools, very impressed by the ability to place lines on different halves of a tile, I couldn't figure that out for my art program. Being able to use the cursor and know where it was going to draw was implemented very nicely too.

Developer

Yeah, I realise it is very hard for new players. I can do it super fast cause I played it for hours while testing it.

I'm glad you liked it, we had similar fundamental ideas about making an art game, but we took it in different directions! To place half tiles, I have to check the exact pixel location of the brush, rather than just the general tile.

Submitted(+1)

Amazing game and I love your art style. The gameplay was extremely fun and kept me engaged the entire time. I really like how challenging it is and the strategies behind getting an efficient score, like do I clear the board and start over for this new sketch or make edits to my previous one to end up with the least amount of tiles to change? My high score (as of right now, I will definitely be back to play this game again in the future) is 4570. Insanely great submission, insanely great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it! 4570 is a great score, it seems like most people only get past the first sketch. My highscore in the page screenshots is 6380.

But if you want a really highscore to beat when you come back to it, I managed to get 15160 (with a lot of luck) once! Let me know if you do!

a great game! the music makes it even more fun :)
Submitted(+1)

I played your game before, without realizing it was for this jam haha Really nice work!

Developer

Thank you! I improved it with a couple of minor changes a few times, so I hope you got the best version!

Submitted(+1)

very cool concept! the art it wonderful!

Submitted(+1)

1320 was my highscore, Im quite bad at it but it is fun, beautiful color scheme and catchy music.

Developer(+1)

Yeah I'm thinking of making another version that starts with a smaller and easier canvas size. As the developer I have played and tested it so much, I find it really easy, but it's clear that isn't how most people experience it. Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I was initially confused on how the game worked for about a round but afterwards after fully getting the hang of it I think this is overall the best game I’ve played in the jam so far. Very very good stuff.

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you got the hang of it in the end! What initially made it confusing? I would love to be able to fix that :)

Submitted(+1)

This game is insanely good for the time you had to make it! Spectacular entry to the jam. Keep up the great work!

cool game, it was interesting to draw :)

A very beautiful GB game!

Submitted(+1)

Very nice idea and smooth implementation! I love the fact that is made for a native 1-bit platform!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, Game Boy is perfect for 1-bit jams!
