Dialog Suggestions / Requests

Did you come to a point where you REALLY wanted to be able to say XYZ but it wasn't an option on the menu? Did you encounter a scenario where you totally wanted to tell Martha that you already cheated with John and then stole his Magic cards and that's why he couldn't give them to her, but the plot didn't seem to acknowledge it? Here is the place to make a case for "I wish I could do X".

Obviously not every suggestion will be taken, sometimes there are reasons why something isn't an option, sometimes it would just bog things down, but other times people have good ideas I haven't thought of and this is what the beta period is for!

Since this may require spoilers to explain the nature of the situation you've gotten yourself into that you wanted the game to acknowledge, rot13 is helpful!

Absolutely loving the new post-loss election scene!

In a super niche situation (which I was happy to find had been considered!) negotiating with Branekka with Milan as Logothete: She asks if you’re familiar with Milan, Elector of Kedrow, Logothete of X, and Zorana asks if she means the Logothete of X. Maybe there was a helper for someones full name and title, which was changed to also have the cabinet position mentioned, some time after this was written?

Not quite dialogue, but I find the distinction between "leaning" and "generally" confusing. Based on the icon and interactions, I expect that "leaning" is stronger than "generally", but based on pure vocab connotations I (ESL experience) expected it to be the other way around. Is it on purpose? Or could "somewhat" be swapped in for "generally", or "very" for "leaning"?

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

This is a hard thing to express in words and I'm not sure there's an ideal solution for it.

When your skill at identifying people's positions is not very high, then all you can get is "hostile", "positive?", "negative?" without any more detail. So "generally positive" could mean anything from a super-lukewarm 51% approval to a full on 95% approval. You don't have the skill to be more precise. You never get a "neutral" result when your skill is at this level, you always decide it's one way or the other.

Whereas "leaning positive" is a more precise description of someone who is definitely on the positive side but not quite all the way up to friendly status. If you have enough skill for this outcome, you'll get "neutral" for people who are clustered more around 50/50.

Someone who is "generally positive" might have higher, lower, or the same approval as someone who is "leaning positive" because you just can't tell.

But it's awkward for dialog purposes to write it as "positive???" even if that's pretty much what you're getting. It needs to be able to fit into the standard report of sensing feelings.

Open to suggestions, if this makes sense.

(+2)

"Probably positive" and "probably negative," maybe, to reflect vagueness and uncertainty?

(+1)

Maybe “Roughly positive”, for breadth and coarseness? This is hard. D:

Ah! Okay, got it, I completely missed that.

Maybe getting rid of "leaning" when Zorana's Empathy is high enough? That way it's clearer that "generally positive" is vaguer than "positive". And you're left with "friendly" and "hostile", which I think read more intense than positive and negative.

It's very funny to get the "River of Light" constellation when you've blackmailed your way to the crown (6 votes out of 17), and have Krovos as your spiritual advisor, but I wish there was some counter in the game that impacted the epilogue is Zorana's been a bit too blackmail-happy. (I have never blackmailed more than 6 people, so it's possible that there is one that I simply haven't stumbled upon, but in case there isn't...)

I also expected Krovos as spiritual advisor to have some flavor in the epilogue - it does reflect on Zorana's relationship to spirituality, and as it stands it doesn't seem to have much of an impact on Zorana's relationship with the High Pontifex in the epilogues.

oh whoops but I AM incredibly looking forward to it!!!! It sort of also feels it should impact the Agonaglia at least! (and maybe the visit to the All-Seeing Eye?)

When I was engaged to Milan, I decided to ask Branekka to become my advisor - a last ditch effort, since I thought her hatred of him would cause me to be rejected. She didn't seem to have any problems with it, though. I can definitely see her overlooking her grudge against him in pursuit of power, but it could be neat if being engaged to him caused a snarky comment from her (maybe about trying to use her role as an advisor to get Zorana better taste in partners?)

Also, when we give our final speech right before the election, I wished there was an option to test some of the physical stats. I feel like having a grandmaster Military stat + good piloting could lead into a good argument of "you should vote for me because I can rule with force".

I never, ever understand what the "correct" option when meeting Ethexae is. A successful Etiquette check says "you are expected to bow your head", but then both options offered seem wrong ("kneel" or "remain standing"), and I don't understand which I should pick. "Kneel" is so much stronger than "bow your head" that it might pass for ignorance/lack of etiquette and not win Ethexae"s confidence that we're fit to rule; and "remain standing" says that Zorana meets Ethexae's gaze.

(1 edit)

You can train Spirituality (without an advisor) before meeting Ethexae. One day’s worth of lessons goes a long way towards knowing what the right options should be.

For the initial check, you remember that you might be able to approach her as an equal as Empress, but for now, you need to be submissive/supplicative.

(1 edit)

I always have Basic Spirituality when meeting Ethexae, and that's specifically why I find the wording in this choice unclear : the successful check's information doesn't fit in with either choice.

I'm more likely to kneel if I don't have the check's information, because in that case I haven't discovered information that tells me that kneeling isn't considered culturally appropriate from the Imperial heir.

I would suggest either rewording "kneel" to "bow" or offer a third, correct option if Zorana passed the check.
ETA or simply rewording "you are expected to bow your head" for something slightly less specific, such as "you are expected to show deference", something to indicate that any outward sign of respect is better than treating her like an equal.

I just want to say that I'm very, very fond of the scientist who speaks to Zorana during the reports of the genetic testing if Zorana gets engaged, for all that they don't have a portrait of a name. I think it would be incredibly cool if there was something more there (the scientist disappearing, or being blackmailed, or Zorana being blackmailed), and I understand if it's utterly outside the range of what you want to do, Hanako, but it would be so cool if the scientist or consequences for the conversation came up again.

Developer

This is one of the characters being filled in by a kickstarter backer - which means they will have a portrait and a name in the future and possibly more appearances but might also change in the process. So, fortune's blades :D

Oh that's cool! Looking forward to what happens there/their final form!

I kind of feel like there should be a cruelty check or something for the "wbvavat sbeprf jvgu gur onq thl" ending, like in the first game. In LLTQ I always found it very amusing that you could play as a mad tyrant but everything is sparkly and pink, but in this one I got the rivy raqvat by playing as I usually do and then everything drastically changes depending on what dialogue option you pick at that turn. It feels like it would be more rewarding if there was some more build up and it could function like a sort of route/achievement for us who like to create as much chaos as possible.

(+1)

While that could be a drastic choice within the game universe, I think video game players have come to be conditioned that just beating up bad guys is the default way to solve problems unless the game firmly establishes that you should avoid confrontation. I also felt more like I was harvesting ending options from that one event, rather than any kind of role-playing experience. Like when you're done with your current playthrough in a game like Princess Maker or the classic Ateliers, so you re-load a save and sell your entire inventory, tweak some stats, and avoid the final flags to collect less prestigious endings for the sake of completion. At that point I've lost any sense of immersion :(

I will say that I think a hidden cruelty stat might be nice.

Not a dialogue request but I think there should be a way to make it from Draug to neutral space in 2 turns, not 3. I just find it annoying that I have to spend more time than I want idling around Heru/Tharkas than I want to be there on time rather than do more important stuff and make it back.

Edit: Yes I know it's a routing issue but I had such a good run getting all the votes and council members I needed very quickly which left me on Heru I on turn 17. I saved just in case I couldn't make it back and sped up to Draug for turn 19 to snatch up the 2 votes there. With a science score above 50 I had the extra distance but I'm forced to travel to Myrkka I or Heru I then another deep space which leaves no time to make it for turn 22.

So I reset back to turn 17 and then wasn't able to secure any votes as I could only make a first impression then had to snail crawl back towards neutral space without doing anything productive for 5 turns.

Having a path that would bypass Heru I/Myrkka I from Draug would be so helpful.

Going to Myrkka II when Mirelle has pledged her vote to Lukomir, it feels like the usual narration is lacking something. "There is only one guest with a critical role to play in the near future" as well as Mirelle saying "I look forward to speaking with you in more detail later", that makes me wish the scene mentioned that it's too late, or that narration would say something about these exchange of pleasantries being rather empty (or without being affected by mood - isn't it a little disheartening to meet someone who is perfectly nice and pleasant and who didn't even give you a chance to win her vote?)

(it's a very minor point because Mirelle decided to throw her lot in with Lukomir one turn before I reached Myrkka II and I was feeling ~betrayed~ due to never having Mirelle not give me her vote in previous playthroughs.)

While it’s probably not practical at scale, it would be cool if some advisors with an agenda took the opportunity to frame things in a slightly different way whenever you had to rely on them for a check.

Maybe Ozara really stresses the importance of predictability for economics, if you have her around when you need to decide on the Jubilee date.

Maybe Krovos opens up some spicy dialog if he’s on board whenever Arrahil discusses her passion, or vice versa. He could also subtly describe information as about the “old” religion, if you’ve made Plans.

Maybe Branekka or Milan or both proactively ask you to spite the other, if you brought one along to where the other is present. (I’m curious about what was going on here, too!)

I’d especially hoped to see some consequences from Erilotti taking a very important position in cabinet. Maybe if she’s around, she frames species greeting sequencing by describing Mau as co-founders of the empire who expect to be acknowledged, or describing Heru as fiercely independent at best, unlikely to be offended if left last, but with an opportunity to portray unity.

It could be really fun if I get some early scenes when learning Intrigue for myself. It’s the knowledge skill that a player is likely to experiment with first, and would be another hint that sometimes, you’ll discover more when you learn knowledge skills for yourself. I could see her looking up salacious information at Student level. Maybe the results in having more to share with Kxenia on Turn 15. There could be some really fun easter eggs if the Grandmaster Intrigue flavour was something like “you’ve made a habit of investigating everyone you could meet” rather than “you’ve read up on all Electors”. Maybe discovering a few extra details about your friends and family, where you couldn’t perform a regular investigation.

I feel like there should be more sensitive things to learn in the Quest from the Pahnei-Stooye Electors, especially if I’m taking a difficult dive for Military secrets.

I wish getting physical in neutral space would have been disconcerting enough to dislodge some interesting information. It’s a pretty hard to check to make on top of everything else!

I wish I had more opportunities to interact with my cabinet. They’re supposed to be my closest allies, yet I end up feeling closer to all the people I do personal and engaging quests for instead. What if they did get a say in Imperial Policy from the get go, or just took opportunities when they come? Probably not practical to do for everyone, but maybe Rejt comes up with a proposal for something around the Opera. Maybe that’s how you actually meet the Askold opera company - I mention meeting them, when they come up in conversation, but that seems to have happened “off-screen”?

I wish there was a way to have “close contacts in Heru II” for the epilogues. I’d beelined there to obtain one cabinet member and complete two personal quests for a fully pledged system, and it still was this remote mysterious system to me as far as the epilogues were concerned.

I haven’t yet checked to see if Jade reacts differently if you’re wearing the Domination outfit. That could be an entertaining easter egg if she doesn’t already!

Completely separately, I wish there was a way to still experience personal quests from people who really like you. I’ve finally been able to see Grojdana’s quest, and that was super fun. I had no military experience, but seized a victory in a fun parallel of what I’d been doing socially in the wider sector. :)

To clarify on this part, in the current patch you only get the explanation of why Khdarr doesn't know anything about it if you've married her, (though you can possibly work it out from her background). Upcoming patch can also provide that line if she's in your cabinet, because yeah it was confusing for people wondering why they had no strong contacts if they didn't remember an otherwise-unimportant piece of intel.

If you've been given Starlight Needle + Robe of Ice's quest you should get some additional epilogue text about Heru II naq nyfb n obahf gb gur purpx lbh arrq gb znxr gb trg gur npghny svany nafjre.

I did get that text! The description was brilliant and inspiring and wonderful after so many runs investigating the area! I have definitely never been engaged with Khdarr in that or any other run yet, but that might have been the run where discovering sensitive information early let me bypass a hard GR check for setting up a cool display?

I wish Branekka voting for Lukomir would be delayed if Zorana 1)has Branekka's personal quest, and 2)denounced Milan. Or that Zorana could spend a social action sending a message to Branekka telling her "please hold until I return to Heru III," and if Zorana doesn't get there before the end of the game it's not an obligation to Branekka to vote for Zorana. It's beyond frustrating to denounce Milan and in the same turn having Branekka decide to vote for Lukomir after all.

I wish that there was a way to know when Ethexae is so mad at you that she won't allow you to attend Agonalia without going all the way there. Maybe if someone is voting for you already on Myrkka II they could send you a message letting you know? Or you could spend a social action with high enough Intrigue/Media to know how Ethexae is feeling about Zorana at this current time, even if Zorana has never met her?

I wish there was a way to earn the right to attend Agonalia/convince Ethexae to let you attend even if she's hostile, because it's a wonderful scene/piece of worldbuilding, and it's a shame to be so often locked out of it. Or maybe one of the Electors can have you as their +1 - maybe you can reach one of them and suggest that as a way to earn their vote (isn't it a favor to them to show up as arm candy to someone?). Or maybe if Zorana doesn't get to attend anyway she can publish an interview where she can try to spin not attending Agonalia as a good thing to mitigate the results (either through implying the High Pontifex has it out for her but politely, or that Zorana believes it is more proper for an Imperial candidate not to bring politics into the realm of the religious, or to double down on saying that Zorana doesn't consider it appropriate because she wouldn't want to favor one religion above the others).

Still about Agonalia, but not only, I wish there was even more places in the story where someone told you/Zorana learned about what the rumors/the common people think. I'm thinking about something like the satirical poem that reaches Elodie, reaching Zorana after she fails to attend Agonalia. Not even as an event with checks or anything, just Zorana seeing the caricatures/satirical drawings of her looking down her nose at Ethexae if she wasn't at Agonalia, or maybe an Internet sketch mocking her turn 8 interview/mocking the interviewer if she did well, and being impacted by her mood. I love the "My Best Friend Confessed Their Love To Me And", and the existence of the turn 8 interview, and Kxenia keeping Zorana up to date on what's said on forum boards, but I would love more of these, especially as reactions/comments on Zorana and her choices.

I also wish but realize that it's not implementable if there was a way to steal people away when they've thrown their votes in with another candidate. Maybe only certain electors (Zolot, I'm looking at you) or maybe only after an enemy of theirs was caught behind as assassination of Zorana.

Another thing that is probably especially not implementable (because the way I see it, it would require more scenes to sell the idea that Zorana would like to get with this person personally, not simply politically) but that I would love would be take concubines. Maybe one of the Scientists we cross paths with (this could also political, actually; Zorana would know what they were doing but it's a cushy position). Which would probably be even MORE work than the other ideas!

I just think being the existence of concubines is cool and it would also be cool if there was another possibility or so.

I completed Eve's quest "A Personal Touch" by crafting an item with my own hair. I was expecting some "interesting" negative consequences from this, like finding in the Epilogue that she has cloned some next-generation pretenders to the throne. Still an entertainingly disturbing quest sequence, though.

This isn't a dialogue suggestion, but it is something that would have helped me regarding turn 27. I hope it isn't too presumptuous to write my thoughts here.

I was disappointed that all the options for dealing with the cute rambling Mirrow scientist at the Draug reception were methods of getting rid of her. Maybe I don't have time to hear her out right then, but I want to learn what her magnificent discovery was! (Flirting with her would also be fun - I the player was charmed! ☺️)

Not dialog suggestion, but if someone likes you or/and is on your "team" maybe lessons with +5/10 skill like with your friends, (for now from what I know there are three characters that gives you skill, four if you chose not lesson, but "charm and flatter" option
