Any platform suggestion to promote indie game?!

I have tried marketing my game on Facebook Ads(with purchase), goes to random group, Discord, and Tiktok ads(with purchase). Somehow, my viewers and player who actually play it(including downloaders) is too little. What makes even worst, most of groups in Discord or facebook does not allowing people to advertise them despite making a platform for indie dev. I understand that it was for safety from scammers. But yeah. I find it very struggle, even just to have 10 viewer a day. Meanwhile, I have seen the newbie dev can do 1000 views a day. (sorry for being unprofessional comparison, maybe they had better content, idk)

So, you guys have any advice or platform where I can promote my game? Somehow, I find it hard, just to get 1 actual players

you are not alone in this, the internet is full of noise. I've had my own struggles during promotions of my content.

you sort of just have to find the thing that works for you, you need to build your audience and sometimes that's just no easy feat.

So I can't tell you how to market your game, but I can tell you the one thing never to do. Never anger a niche audience, you will screw yourself.

having said that, have you tried twitter, or simply making a devlog here on itch?

no, I tried facebook, discord, gdhub, instagram, tiktok and reddit...sadly reddit group disabled someone from promoting themselve.. Altho, I never tried twitter tho

if you join twitter i'll be the first person to follow you.

For Reddit, it depend where you're posting. In my experience: r/gaming and r/Steam are a Big No, they will ban your post or you if you promote. But r/IndieDev and r/IndieGaming are actually good. The trick is to present your game and ask for feedback, include screenshots and link youtube gameplay video and it should pass. Don't spam of course.

Another forum, https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php. I have never been able to get throught their registration process... :-(

I have tried that, whenever I post it, it says something like "not enough karma"..what was that mean?

Reddit Karma is based on Upvotes & Downvotes. My guess is that you were probably downvoted a few times too many. Try to post elsewhere (wherever) and farm those upvotes like you would do for a gaming currency.

As people have said before, there are so many, it's very difficult. I think, rather than worry about mass markets like Facebook, you might be better off finding and individually contacting people who you think will have a special interest in your game.

You're Indonesian, right? Maybe start with the local approach and contact Indonesian Youtubers, Twitch streamers, bloggers etc. who have an interest in indie games. Even if they don't have huge viewing figures, they will have an immediate interest in you as a developer, and making contacts is always good, and can lead to bigger things.

nope, I am from Malaysia..but yeah, Im working on doing that. In fact, this game was targeting local. But still, its hard to get a hundred a week..Also, thank you for the encouragement, really appreciated..Hehe, can you give me a shoutout, your profile seems promising tho

Wish you the best! Are you on Bluesky? That's the only social media we use at the moment, I'd be happy to give you a shoutout but don't expect too much- we are terrible at social media and have the same struggles you do ;)

hahaha, I never heard of it.. But sure, I will try that

Reddit,discord and independent forums!

Here are a couple of YT shorts videos that might be useful:

Personally, one of the best platforms right now to self-promote your game is Tiktok, but it is **very** time consuming, because the algorithm requires you to post basically at least once every day. For general purposes, Youtube and Reddit are usually a very safe bet. Try to find which platforms your players use the most, and focus on that. Don't invest in a random Ads campaign without researching first if you can reach your audience that way.
