Hi, I'm a game developer from Egypt and now when I tried to do the tax interview to be able to do a payout I found out that I need a

"TIN number", now I've never seen anything like this and I don't know how can I get it (been searching for weeks now).

found out that I need to apply for a SS-4 form or W-7 form (I think ?), I don't know it's just complicated, and btw Egypt and USA have a tax treaty which means I should get less taxes when someone buy my game (less than 30%).

Anyway I'm just stuck in this now and need some help until I get that number ....

Waiting for any response about this so I can continue working.

Thanks for any help ...

Any help ?

I also still don't have mine. I only can suggest finding a specialist in real-life, a lawyer or finance specialist.

Yeah

TIN (Tax identification number)

If I understood correctly, in your country the personal income tax is deducted at source every three months and it is directly transferred to tax authorities by the employer (source  https://www.expat.com/en/guide/africa/egypt/14273-tax-in-egypt.html).    I would ask the nearest tax office to your place of residence, or your employer. Maybe the number is already on your pay check?

Another hopefully useful link:    Ministry of Finance www.mof.gov.eg

TIN can be anything, what you looking for is ITIN you need to fill out W-7 do not mistake it for W-7 COA. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/individual-taxpayer-identification-number

I am assuming you never done businesses in the USA so here is what you need to do:

- check off "Applying for a new ITIN"

- check off "A" this means you are not a civilan for america and never done businesses with the country.

- At "Enter treaty country" you put Egypt and then at " treaty article number" you add the numbers "Article 8" (i am not 100% sure it is always hard to tell with limited infomation from peope, Article 8 is a businesses profit claim, you can still get tax in your own country by laws).

- Add your real name and address, Do note you need to file your address in "Foreign".

- Birth infomation

- Fill out 6a and 6b(if any)

- 6d you check what you think is needed to proof that it is really you. I would recommend Passport and driver licence, copy them in a printer and keep them save until the next steps.

- 6e check "No"

- Sign here is just your name, the days you signed and phone number. DO not do anything else you are done with the paper.

Make a copy of the W-7 for safty reasons. Then you give it to someone who is  IRS-authorized Certifying Acceptance Agent. or by mail at:

Internal Revenue Service
Austin Service Center
ITIN Operation
P.O. Box 149342
Austin, TX 78714-9342

They both require the copy passport and driver licence, do not forget to add those copys in the mail if doing it by mail.

Wait a few weeks and you should get it. Enter the ITIN numbers the tax interview requested and everything else should be easy.

Thanks a lot for this very detailed reply, I will look into this but one thing I'm confused with is how to send them the W-7 form online ? Is this possible?

I don't seem to have any of the Certifying Acceptance Agent in my country, so is the only option now is to do it by mail ?

I think mail is your only way, there is no way to send it through online. Don't forget about international mail rates and rules, i don't know much about that but you may want to look it up.

Thank you for the quick reply, and I will check that for sure I didn't know about it, so one  more thing I'm confused with is how will they send me the number when I mail the W-7 form, I don't see any e-mail or anything but phone, will they send a message maybe? how will I get the number ?

by mail they never reply by phone, anyone who claims to be from the IRS might be a scammer unless in rare cases when they do you have to let them know what they want to talk about. Do not give them infomation unless you know the IRS has the same infomation has you. Never give money, ITIN does not require you to buy anything.

Yeah that's what I thought too, so I will send it and if it's accepted they will let me know by mail, Thank you so much for helping and if I have anything or problem I faced while completing the form I'll let you know here.
