My game says I updated it, even though I did not, potentially resetting user saves.

Hey all,
I released a game called The Roottrees are Dead a little over a week ago. Today, someone came into the discord and mentioned they thought an update broke their save file, but I mentioned that I did not update the game. They pointed out that beneath my game, on its page, it says it was "Updated 1 day ago". I'm not sure where that's coming from. Is there any way to see an update history as the game's developer?

If you go here, below the place you can play the game there is a dropdown for "more information" This is what it shows:

(I have pasted an image above but it might not be embedding properly. Here it is on imgur:)

Has anyone else had this happen to them even if they didn't update the game?

It could have something to do with this:  https://itch.io/t/3099694/notice-for-html-game-devs-upcoming-change-to-cdn-domai...

This change does not affect the “Updated at” of game, but, it will cause save game issues for browser players as described on the topic.

Ugh, ok, this might be it then. People are definitely reporting save game issues.

That field is updated if you edit the page in any way, including adding new files, screenshots, changing the layout, or changing the description. Hope that helps

Is there any log of what it was? I really, really don't think I personally updated anything. Has the itch.io admin staff ever had to manually update anything like that?

It probably would be enough if you had the edit window open and saved without any changes.

If you never even touched anything that could be saved, that would be concerning, from a security viewpoint. And please do not forget offsite tools like butler.

I legitimately don't think I opened the edit window on the game at all. At one point I contemplated changing the colors of the page's background but canceled out without saving. I don't think that was on the day it claims it was edited though, I think it was a few days before.

This is why I'm worried, I cant think of anything I could have done to make the game thing I updated it. I do not use butler at all.

I was able to spot the issue. Our system was including a date for an internal task that wasn’t related to updates you made to your page. We’ve pushed out a fix and it should no longer display the misleading “updated at” date.

Thanks
