This game, along with being quite the scare. Has one of the best first-person shooter character controllers I have ever seen. I'd play any fps game with this level of gun system

Pretty cool, but it has some issues sadly. i wonder if conversational ai can be implemented into this to make it one hell of an experience(but then controlling the model becomes a problem)

(1 edit)

Everything wrong with this game(with care)

  1. you're not paying for unity
  2. the settings button is still unstyled
  3. the music still doesn't work,
  4. there's no clear indication that you can't shoot because of the cooldown, a small indication like a screen shake would be welcome.
  5. in free play there's no indication you scored, you just need to eye it
  6. the ball doesn't always go in the right direction
  7. you can't go back using the escape key, you are required to use the onscreen UI
  8. in Freeplay, the walls are offset slightly, you can't go all the way to the left side of the screen, and you can go past the right side
  9. the camera zoom effect doesn't happen in Freeplay
  10. the aim indicator has a sharp line in it instead of a normal gradient.
  11. the level completed screen has a square, grey play button instead of a rectangular colorful one(which is just preference), and the back button, just like the settings button, should be moved to match the others,
  12. the level completed animation feels very robotic and needs a little work
  13. the ball zoom window is too small, and it's binary, instead of zooming in based on the ball's proximity to the net,
  14. the display fullscreen toggle simply doesn't work.
  15. you cant replay or select a specific level
  16. the reset stats button doesn't make a lot of sense and could probably make someone accidentally delete their save if they are curious.
  17. the origin of the aim indicator doesn't move if you begin aiming while the ball is still on cooldown, and the aim indicator doesn't appear until the ball exits cooldown, this may be why the ball appears to go in the wrong direction.

I wish you luck as you continue into v0.3, and I will give you credit for solving some of my previous problems, those being

  1. page theme
  2. Linux support
  3. scoring through the bottom of the hoop
  4. the game abruptly cuts between levels
  5. a cooldown between throws
  6. an indicator for levels
  7. the ability to reset your saved file,

you of course still didn't solve the other ones. I will update this when i get to try it on Linux

Dear Jan:
here is everything i think is wrong with your game. take this as constructive criticism to continue to make your future works better

  1. no itch io page theme, while images aren't necessary, at least pick a few colors,
  2. the game is only for windows, it's fine to not have a web port. but at least make a mac or Linux port. some people don't want to use Windows, or don't have access to a windows machine.
  3. it still has the default unity splash screen for some reason. maybe try checking your licenses and use something with a little more flare.
  4. the settings button is a little hard to find. I can't pick a windowed mode either. also, the version under settings just says "(beta 1)" instead of having a real version number.
  5. the pixel sizes on the basket, ball, and cloud are very inconsistent.
  6. the slow motion feels jagged, add some smoothing maybe? and the physics feels a little floaty,
  7. you can score through the bottom of the hoop.
  8. the game taunts at music and SFX in the settings, but I cannot hear any in game.
  9. the game abruptly cuts between levels,
  10. the hitbox of the hoop could be a little more lenient
  11. the level design is a little boring. maybe you need some more mechanics to spice it up,
  12. sometimes the ball just doesn't go in the right direction??
  13. the camera could use a little bob, since we're in the sky, it just makes sense. either follow the ball slightly, or just a little tilt, pan and zoom.
  14. a little cooldown could help, i find myself making small, quick micro adjustments instead of long, accurate throws.
  15. a level indicator is needed, it helps me know where I am, I can give feedback on individual levels. and shows a sense of progression.
  16. my game either soft locked, or the last level shows no indication that you beat the game. not satisfying at all.
  17. the game has autosaving built in. and that's what you want. but there is no way to see the progress of your save, or delete it (except for removing the appdata of course)

So clearly, you've been working very hard on this and spent a lot of time polishing it up. a little more and you might just have a v0.2

and you got a few things right, it seems you've been paying a lot of attention to frame deltas as the game runs fine at 60hz and 240hz.

although im a huge linux fanatic, im gonna have to give this one a 0 for its low accesabillity. and the fact i never got to play

i want to see you have an encoder/decoder for the settings, so you can send a quick string to your freinds which they can punch into their game(something like 0x7FFF1FA2...etc) so they can try your character immediately and quickly

Congradulations on your mvp. Although it has bugs, and may not work properly in particular cenarios. you have proven your worth to the game development community. and got something infront of us that we can all enjoy.

cant wait to see the final game ;)

if you insert the game into steam, i belive the inputs will be carried through. also, if you are gonna use nintendo controllers often, try wiinupro
