Roman empire epic story with dark visuals
I’m a professional composer recently specialising in game OSTs. These are just some clips from projects I have already worked on! Any genre or game style welcome!
Open to joining any project on a collaborative basis:
Contact on here or via discord and let's work!
Or create a demo for your project free on a professional basis:
How it works:
- Drop a comment or send me a DM with a link to your game page (Steam, Itch.io, etc.), concept art, or your general inspirations.
- I'll quickly compose a FREE custom demo for your game.
- If you like the track, you can work out a paid license for it or a full commission for the project. If you don't like the track then you might have a better idea in the future. You have nothing to lose.
Look forward to hearing from you and seeing your great games!
Have a great and productive day

First Chapter out, dark noir, handrawn roman empire story game.
The soundtrack was composed using ancient instruments, I sourced the best recordings I could get for VSTS of lyres and real instruments, a great ancient horn and the closest living relative of their wind instruments. Roman music to me has always had a sort of delicate phrygian minor sound thats both mystical and a little eastern. I think a lot of that stems from the type of instruments they had access to and the peoples and cultures that have kept those sounds and traditions. The idea of a large sounding Hans Zimmer Gladiator score is quite attractive it just doesn't always feel very historically grounded. Whilst I do love that soundtrack I wanted something a little simpler and more intimate for this story, focusing on the melody as if it were something that people would hum at the time. It comes back later, at the end of the demo with some sung lyrics in latin.
The art Was hand-drawn with reference from real roman items and objects. The art style has a noire aesthetic as if the story is emerging out of the darkness. Some images are subject to change and will be updated where relevant from Beta to Alpha art.
The journey is far from over. True Roman is still in development, and the world will only grow richer from here. This is a mere slice of what we have completed and a tiny morsel of the banquet I intend to serve! Thank you!
Hi there,
Sorry to add yet another one of these. But I've been having a spot of issues r.e. indexing.
Checked everything a few times and it looks good from my end albeit it could be due to updates.
Thank you all for your help I appreciate there must be a whole lot of these to go through.
Out of interest is the process manual? I would be happy to pitch in to help if there is a backlog, I can understand the scale of games to be processed must be quite overwhelming at this stage of the site's success!
Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can assist in any way.
Kind regards,
PA
I can't believe how many players we've already had I've had some really cool DMs and questions about the story across platforms so I might leave some of the answers here.
This section is a Centurions story but a lot of the rest of it is just real Roman life drama.
For example a few of the other major characters are a slave, a 'dodgy' baker and a greek expat with more planned. I really wanted to just show the flavour of Roman life. I led with the Centurion as I thought it would cater more to what the public are generally used to in regards to these sorts of stories but much of the rest of it is a lot more akin to a period drama!
The art came about fairly naturally, I am much better at drawing than I am at painting so when I moved to a graphic tablet I started sketching and black and white seemed to fit with the dark undertones.
Because its choice based I wanted you to be able to wrestle with these ideas and come to your own conclusions. The scope of this will be much greater as the story progresses. As a writer I don't like placing a morality onto the audience I think its disrespectful to the reader. Moral ambiguity is so tied to both ancient and modern life. You're absolutely correct in the characterisation of decadent and glorious. Its fun to play up to these but also to subvert them and to not see ourselves as above it.
The mystery is loosely tied to existing political events its during the reign of Emperor Domitian who was quite an interesting character - class - politics - wider Roman struggles - the clash of civilisations and the moral impact that comes with that. I have thought about doing specifically real figures historical fiction versions too but their history is set in stone and may conflict with giving players choices.
Hey thank you for playing!
Some of them are static frame animations where I'm just moving between them or just in built camera motion. The fade to white is just 100 pngs set as a custom image where I added a texture each frame. For the higher fps more fluid animations it is a sort of rotoscoping effect, I have a large collection of Roman things and Roman shapes I use as references. I should make a video about it if people are interested.
