Hello itch.io community!

I hope you are all doing great. I wanted to share an idea for a game jam project that’s inspired by the Letter Boxed puzzle concept and see if anyone else is interested in joining or exploring similar ideas.

For those who haven’t played it, Letter Boxed unlimited is a word puzzle where you connect letters around a box to form words that use all the letters without repeating them, creating chains and solving efficiently. I think this idea has a lot of creative potential for jam entries — whether as a word game, spatial puzzle, or even a mash-up with other mechanics (like time-limits, multiplayer cooperation, grid transformations, etc.).

Here are some directions I’m thinking about:
• A Letter-Boxed style puzzle with unique twists (e.g., dynamic letters, power-ups, modifiers).
• Adding musical or rhythm elements tied to correct words.
• A visual/cartoon theme that expands on the simple letter ring.
• Competitive or cooperative modes for players solving puzzles together.

I’d love to hear from anyone interested in building something like this whether solo or as a team and discuss possible mechanics, art styles, or tools we could use (Godot, Unity, Phaser, etc.).

What do you think? Would this idea make a fun game jam entry? Any suggestions to refine it?

Looking forward to your thoughts! 🎮✨

Hey everyone,

I’ve been playing around with a small word-puzzle concept inspired by the NYT game Letter Boxed, where players form connected words using letters arranged around a box. It’s simple on the surface but surprisingly engaging once you start trying to optimize solutions.

I’m exploring this idea as a lightweight browser game / prototype and wanted to see what the community thinks. The goal isn’t to clone anything, but to take inspiration from the core mechanic and build something fresh—maybe with different layouts, difficulty levels, or a relaxed daily-challenge vibe.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on:

  • What makes word puzzle games feel satisfying?

  • Do daily challenges keep you coming back?

  • Any twists you’ve seen that work well in indie puzzle games?

Always appreciate feedback from fellow devs and players here. Thanks!

nice

Open a new Unity 3D project and drag your video into the Assets folder. Add a Scene and a Video Player, then assign your video clip and set the Render Mode. Add an Audio Source to play sound with the video. Hit Play, and your video with audio will run together like a mini virtual gaming experience!

That’s a really interesting feature! I think the idea behind a reverse sale might be more about psychology or marketing than actual sales. For example, some developers could use it to:

  • Signal value or exclusivity making a game temporarily “more expensive” can create a perception that it’s premium content.

  • Reward early buyers – raising the price later might make initial purchasers feel like they got a better deal.

  • Experimentation  itch.io is popular with indie developers who like testing unconventional ideas; this could just be another experiment to see how players respond.

You’re right that it doesn’t have an obvious direct benefit like a normal sale, but I think it’s more about perception, psychology, or fun experimentation than conventional sales strategy.
