Phenomenal presentation! Felt like it really naturally taught that you can jump mid-air with the first obstacle after grandpa leaves your reach, which is awesome! I didn't find things too difficult as long as I kept that in mind, although I did not realize there was a glide ability and i missed the snake villager. Once I got double jump I also wasn't able to finish cause I didn't know about the glide to follow grandpa. Art and music are great, pretty polished overall, and a nice touching story! Y'all did great!

Feel like there's a lot of potential with the controlling 2 characters idea. Could do stuff like make them share a charge and have to do puzzles with both at once to get them to connect. The movement was kinda buggy which made the last level impossible, but even outside of that I feel platforming isn't the most interesting part of this idea. Would love to see where this can go!
Really awesome art! Was very ethereal and cool! The ending kinda confused me, the friend lost their spark at a fog wall, I looked around a bit but didn't see anything obvious for how to continue. Then I found my way to clip past the fog wall and went up the hill for a while, before I decided I wasn't meant to be there and jumped off. It reset me at the start, I found a glowing flower and interacting with it killed the lil friend for some reason? And I interacted with the next flower a bit further up and it just ended? Felt mostly confused about all that.
I really like the vibe of it all though! Going around to interact with nature and gain new abilities to explore, like some kinda chill-relaxing metroidvania, can imagine there being lots of potential!
Super cute! Loved how when they were skiing together she would try to keep up with where the player moved. And the art is super well done! Took me a moment to realize I had to use the mouse to interact with things but that wasn't a big issue. Does very well at getting a lot across in a short experience!
oh! You might have noticed by now but I was not a submitter to this jam (although I am a dev). I have a friend who was in the jam so I'm doing my due diligence to rate several games and not just theirs haha. If you wanted to check out my friend's game though it's this one! https://itch.io/jam/thatgamejam01/rate/4171954
Environments are super well done!
I had some trouble getting the phosi's to the dryad, like they followed the mushrooms, but they either got stuck or i was missing something on how to get them away from the lamps and to the dryad. And it seemed like after a bit of time the dryad left and i had to restart(?) Unclear if that was a bug or an actual timer.
I ended up using the cheat key for the first two levels, but the forest did not open, maybe I missed something.
It is a pretty chill idea, if this project were to continue I'd love to see more challenges. Maybe there's multiple types of mushrooms with different effects, and player needs to puzzle out how to use them to lead the phosi's. Maybe phosi's have more behaviors too, like running from the player and needing to be herded or something. Feels like there's lots of different ways you could expand on the idea!
Very nice vibes, I believe your description said you used asset packs, and you used them really well! Environment design is what really stood out to me for this lil demo, very solid polished presentation overall!
First to be clear, *I* am not the VA, I'm the programmer, and I've got a streamer friend who has stated she'd be interested in participating as a VA
I've worked on several projects and jams, have used Godot/Unity/Unreal. Never used Ren'py but i'm more than confident I could pick it up easily enough. Would love to work with a small team for this, keep things simple and low pressure for us. So if you've got a team or want to make a team feel free to lemme know what you can do! :smiley face emoji:
Super cool visuals and great audio! All darkness in the level makes things very oppressive which is a great atmosphere! (I loved the room full of cultists stomping loudly back and forth!) The main mechanic is real cool too!
The praying to checkpoint was a little confusing cause there's no visual to show it's working, but i did figure it out. Things did feel a little tedious with having to redo parts of the level every time you die, but you have to die to progress. I'm not quite sure what a good alternative would be though. And it felt a little like it wants to be both a puzzle game and a platformer, which was not a good feeling. I was unable to finish because trying to jump over an enemy was really difficult timing, but i had no other way around. I don't mind the enemies but maybe it'd be more fun if instead of resetting you to checkpoint, they kill you and take one of your charges. So then it could be like "oh they killed me but now maybe my body's in a useful spot"
I think there's a lot of potential to make a nice, dark, depressing story here, and I'm all for it :kekw. And the main mechanic could leave room for some real interesting puzzles, especially if more things interact with bodies in special ways. Like maybe cultists carry a body somewhere else, somewhere useful or it's a window to sneak by them. Or maybe dying a specific way gives you a special item that you need elsewhere, like a key or something. All sorts of interesting routes you could take this!
Overall, very pog much cool y'all did awesome!
So uhh, I'm mainly a programmer, done several jams and a few larger projects in the past. I prefer to keep it small so would love to duo or trio with people. Not looking to be overly ambitious and crunch, just wanna chill, have fun, and meet some new peeps! I'm in the discord with the same name so feel free to message there if you're interested!
Intro was funny and had cool art but some of the word choice and flow made it a bit hard to understand. Art and music is cool. Gameplay feels mostly polished and interesting. The glowly light that kills you isn't obviously a danger, I thought I died by hitting the fan. I think it was the third bat room but I somehow got the box stuck in a spot where I couldn't move it or get past it and had to reset, but good on you for making esc a level restart so I didn't have to replay anything. I tried talking to the bat again after completing it's level and it said something new, but I accidently skipped past it, and then any further talking just sent me back into the level. Maybe a confirmation option on if I wanted to go into the level would've been good. There's a delay in throwing on the monkey level, makes it a little harder to time but maybe that's fine. I wish I could claw in the air for this final level, hard to beat the clock when boxes are falling on top of my after attacking a box in front of me. Overall pretty cool and cute!
Really cool idea with switching position in the world to do different abilities! I found it a little bit confusing to call it "Backward/Forward" since I thought of "backward" as left and "forward" as right, since it's a sidescroller, but I eventually figured it out! It could've used some more clarity on when I should switch forward or backward but I did like the freedom of switching whenever. I eventually fell into a sewer and died to a seemingly endless wave of enemies, not sure if I was supposed to win, switching didn't work I don't think(?), felt a little abrupt. Really really cool idea though!
The animations and art are super cool! Might've been cool to have things that look like a cat to trick you while searching. The dark levels and bright transition screens clashed a bit, but that's what I get for playing in the middle of the night xD I don't know why Whiskers is summoning a demon but I will happily be the sacrifice o7
The effect and noises when dashing into a wall are amazing xD. Controls feel a little awkward to me, I would've preferred something like spacebar for both pick up and throw. Menus seem really polished, good sound effects overall. The rushing through a door thing is funny which I like, but unexpectedly takes control away which I don't like, not sure what a fix for that might be. I could easily see this being one of those hectic multiplayer overcooked like games!!
Cute, professional feeling intro! Love the art! Having trouble figuring out how to add the water that appeared. I think it might feel good to do that thing some platformers do where you can jump up through the bottom of a platform but not fall through it. Definitely could be a lot of fun with some polish!
