Thank you. It was just a quick mockup. I plan on improving it.

Thanks for that. I'll check it out

I do know how to change the camera settings in code, but how can I detect a user's resolution in code? Any idea?

I did build one app before that looked good everywhere, including here on itch. The ONLY app I've ever released to Google PlayStore. It didn't look right on MY device because I have a very awkward screen resolution. My screen aspect ratio on my phone is 18:41.

What reason would your default resolution be different than your canvasses?

As a web developer, screen resolutions were so easy to work with. But as a game developer, I hate it lol. As far as I know, fluid layouts such as 100% screen width isn't even a thing. Trying to figure out sizes that scale with every device is not easy, especially since not every device will be your reference resolution or default resolution.

Thanks for the feedback. That's not the game I'm working on at the moment, but I will go check that out and see what kind of scaling options I have. I don't remember how I scaled the play screen.

That question is not self-explanatory.

So, I've developed an app with the canvas reference resolution to 360 x 640. It looks perfect in Unity.

When I upload to itch.io and set the manual dimensions to 360x640, it cuts off the top and bottom of the app as if it doesn't fit.

Is this an itch issue or am I doing something wrong in Unity?

Also, I am unable to auto detect sizes. I think this is something I'm missing in Unity. Could someone point me in that direction?

These issues have occurred in every app/game I've uploaded to itch. I can't seem to get itch to recognize the same dimensions I'm developing the apps in.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank You.

I appreciate the feedback. I did include all nine planets, to include Pluto; however, I didn't have enough time to work the puzzles all the way through. I probably should have adjusted the planets so they're actually in view for this game jam. I believe I implemented a look feature by moving the mouse. I will have to check into that. Thanks for playing.

Yea, I've actually learned quite a bit from the jams I've participated in. Ranked pretty well too. People seem to rank me higher in enjoyment than other categories. Although, the most people in a jam that's voted on my games so far was 64. Until now, I'm in a jam with over 8,700 people. Voting is still going on for that one. I hope I rank at least in the top 250. Considering the number of games submitted, that would be somewhat impressive.

I'm a programmer. Not a graphics artist. Not an animator. etc. Although, I can do those things on a basic level, since it's not possible to find people to help on a game. All my games will ever look like is Amateur level, even though I use some pretty complex coding in some of them. Since I don't have an eye for art, I'm stuck at making games that don't "look" good.

Well, just about ALL of the games or developers that I notice, are popular people with a lot of followers. It's no surprise that popularity is a huge ranking factor. Do any search on any website and the first 10 results are likely people you've heard of before. So, the question that remains for many people is, how did they get there if their videos weren't shown before they were popular. The only conclusion I came up with is a very huge marketing budget OR an already existing large circle of family and friends. I don't have either. I have like 3 friends on my Facebook. So, even if I shared there, it wouldn't do any good. For example, the number one suggestion of crowdfunding is to share with family and friends (to gain momentum). My family and friends don't give a sh*t what I do. If I share ANYTHING with them, they just ignore it. So, I have absolutely no one to share my stuff from the start. I have to rely on YouTube (and other sites) algorithm to rank me well, which is very rare for an unknown person. Back in the day, SEO meant something. Since they started ranking by popularity, the small guy can't get anywhere.

Well, I can add my YouTube link, but I guarantee you, that if 1,000 people saw it, only one might click on it. However, it would take 6 months just to get 1,000 people to see it since itch.io doesn't rank games from unknown people very well. All my games show up at least 500 videos down, maybe even further. I once did a filter search and narrowed down as far as I could. I was number 7 of 10 results. That's because I'm not well known/popular. I even paid $50 to promote a video. I got about 60 views and 18 subscribers. It cost FIFTY BUCKS. I highly doubt it's worth $50 to get 18 subscribers, most of which don't watch any of your other videos.

Honestly, I just think I'm invisible sometimes. It was probably rejected because they didn't know about it. It's like my YouTube videos. Totally invisible and no views. It's like when I talk to girls. Totally invisible. Or when I try to start a business. Totally invisible. No customers. I'm pretty sure I'm just invisible or I died and think I'm still alive. lo

https://itch.io/jam/failjam - this is the one that made my head hurt lol.

I've seen some with awful colors, almost made my head hurt and like one sentence for the description. Mine had pleasant colors, a few graphics on the jam page and a good description. https://itch.io/jam/solarsoft-game-jam-1 - this was mine. No one joined because it never showed up on the calendar.

I'm guessing they only approve well known people. Mine never got approved. It was much better than many of the ones on the calendar.

Thanks for the input. I've considered dynamic changing mazes, but figured I didn't have enough time during this game jam. I may try to implement that at some point.

Thank You. I actually thought about including different types of puzzles in each room. Like maybe a memory game where you have to step on certain color blocks in a certain order.

Thank You! Tried my best. :)

lol I'm sorry. Thanks for the tip. I actually planned on making the mazes go to the 9th planet, but just didn't have enough time. All nine planets do actually exist in the world, you're just unable to see that far in the game. Something I might do in later updates is include different types of puzzles, not just mazes. So, maybe like a memory puzzle where you have to step on certain color pieces in a certain order, etc. and whatever other kind of puzzles I can think of.

Sorry you had that experience! Any idea how to make it more apparent what to do? The puzzles are mazes. You just have to work your way around the walls to get to the red button.

Well, if they for some reason denied them being on the calendar, they should let us know and why?

Really? I tried preventing that. I'll have to check it out.

Are you making your own game or looking to join someone else's game?

I am using Unity. Feel free to join my Discord.

I sent you an email

Ok. Great. I need a "Outer Space" theme if you have any ideas.

I already have someone doing sound effects. Are you able to do some background music?

(1 edit)

I've already started the game. Wondering if anyone wants to collaborate. But... you will have to leave Earth to join me.

If anyone is interested, I would like:

hmm. I play tested it a lot. Didn't have that issue. I will have to try and figure out why it would freeze in midair like that. Thanks for the feedback.

I created a game jam over a week ago and it's still not on the calendar. How long does it take?

It was a hard theme I believe. Took a minute for me to figure something out. So, I made it where you had to "die" to proceed. I tried working out a death animation when you "died", but something wasn't going right with getting it to apply on death correctly.

I came here looking for how to add background images (to the whole page, not the content area). From your post, it looks like you can. I don't have that option. According to @mid, it looks like I might have additional options by enabling CSS.

However, I would like to mention, you can use custom HTML. Something as simple as adding a background-color (to the html), border, border-radius, color, bullets, numbers, sections, headings, etc., can all make your page look nice.

Thank You

Thanks. Addicting is what I'm aiming for. They tend to be the most successful. I've played probably 1,000 times while playtesting. I almost never misinput anymore. It's one of those games where the more you play, the better you get.

Thank You Very Much!

Yea, I've never played a game that uses WASD for one game object and Arrows for another. I thought I was a genius inventing that. lol - then I came across a bunch of other games that do the same thing.

(1 edit)

Thanks for that. I will have to look into my hard drop. I must not have deactivated it when it's a game over.

It probably would have taken a professional much less time to do this. But, I've been working on it practically non-stop. I already submitted it to the Game Jam because I don't know if I'll have much time available today to finish it.
