Last year I decided to pick up this project again and with the help of my friend and spouse, the game is now called Rules & Rodents and it’ll be available Q4 2024:

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2923230/Rules__Rodents/

Itch.io: https://gravycrewgames.itch.io/rules-and-rodents-demo

This is a fantastic idea and game, really enjoyed it!

Bug has been fixed and updated :)

Game has now been updated! 2 Extra levels and an ending :) with bug fixes. Thanks again everyone for playing!

Changes:

  • Added ending scene
  • Added 2 new levels
  • New SFX and UI tweaks

Bug fixes:

  • Setting the fire rule before player movement now works correctly
  • Empty rule and extra rule now flash at the same time
  • Enemies no longer flip back and forth when stuck

Wow honestly thank you so much for playing my game and for such a lovely comment. I am a software developer as my main job but my passion is in games, and this is my 2nd game jam (and game) but first solo game jam, so reading comments like this gives more more drive to follow what I enjoy!

I’ll be updating it after the game jam, already added 2 levels and an ending :)

Haha yeah its meant to be 1 long rule, but I didn’t convey that very well! Thank you very much, I used the great 1-bit pack from Kenney with a few of my own mods :) thanks for playing!

Thank you for playing :) you know what… that actually sounds fun hahah future level idea!

Thanks for playing :) I’ve fixed the bug, so will be updated when the game jam is over. In the meantime, select the player movement rule before the fire one, as a work around!

Very sad game :( it is amazing this was made in 48 hours, the animation and controls were amazing.

Great use of the diversifiers, neat idea and well executed :)

I had a lot of fun with this! Loved the simple aesthetics and music, clever idea for a game jam, great work!

Very atmospheric and spooky! Had fun playing it

Wow, a great game for a game jam! Loved everything about it

That was a great tune, and also great work doing a rhythm game in 48 hours! I got really far, when it started doing multiple keys at the same time, my brain couldn’t keep up haha fantastic work!

Really satisfying when moving up and down! Loved the music too

Found the bug, will be fixed and updated once the game jam is over :)

You can get around the bug by clicking the player movement rule before you select the fire rule
