RULES UPDATE (3/8) Sticky

Hello Acerola Jammers,

After doing my legal due diligence I have learned that it is actually against many platforms' terms of service to redistribute even free assets. So, my rule asking for your game to be hosted on GitHub is technically encouraging all participants to break the terms of service of platforms like the Unity and Unreal marketplace, and I really don't want to be sued because that would suck. So I am RESCINDING the source requirement on submissions. In future jams, I will probably ask for a written list of assets used, but I am not asking for that in this jam. Also, if you are considered for the top 10 I will probably ask for your game's source, so keep that in mind.

It's still optional for you to do so and I encourage you to learn if you're a current student or aspiring professional as having your projects hosted on GitHub to link from your resume is very valuable. But, I hope this relieves some stress.

Good luck with the rest of the development period!

People making their game for the browser with JavaScript: I see no problem with this

I did it cause I've seen several other jams do it so I just assumed it was fine, but at this size of a jam and if I wanna keep doing it yearly at a larger size I just need to be a bit more professional about it I guess. That was the point of this event as well, to learn so it can be better next time!

that makes my life so much easier, i did not want to go through the battle that is hosting a unreal game on github.

luckily I've used my own assets so I'm good

Its good that I'm doing literally EVERYTHING from scratch myself, I'd probably get sued if I wasn't cause I'm not smart enough to think about the legal repercussions of that lol

Same here lol, that, and using only public domain sources for sound clips XD

yeah I just made sure anything I used was either listed as free to use, or free with attribution and copied the attribution.

My nightmare is having 3 hours left in the jam and still needing to finish 1 major implementation of it that requires producing sound ;-;

Will be done in around 30 mins though!

I don't know what stuff is and is not public domain so my sound effects are actually just snippets from a music making software

Oof, the only thing I've been using that isn't directly unity's or mine is the flippin' skybox because, well, I don't know how to make one and it would take forever. Guess I'll obviously credit or (possibly) contact the owner, even if it's completely free (even in the advertising)

Edit: I pulled through with a tutorial and some bodging :)
