I worked hard on this and started on day three of the jam. Its the first jam game Ive submitted that I can say "this is a finished version" even though there are many upgrades I could make.

I liked the direction of the game! it was a bit fast at first though I guess that's just the chaotic nature of the game. Reminded me a lot of skyburger but with a lot more going on!! Music was nice and the ceiling lamps getting in the way added a bit of a nice twist! Maybe add some sound effects whenever new orders pop up/orders are completed (or maybe there were sound effects but they weren't working on web?) Anyways great game! Nice job!

Developer(+1)

All solid points. I rushed to finish and ran out of time for the sound effects. haha. But I def agree that its needed - especially for new orders and completed. So glad you liked the lamps because I spent way too long on those suckers to make them respond in that fashion. haha

Thanks for playing!

Nice concept for a game. Mechanics were neat. I really liked the art style. Music was good too.

Feedback:
I wish when you press exit in game it brought you to home screen instead of quitting.
Definitely was chaotically fun.
The bounciness was nice.
I like that you added a leaderboard, good incentive for replay.
I liked the effects you used throughout game as well

Well done!

Developer

haha! Thanks! :D
I rushed the exit button haha. Someone on fb got stuck in fullscreen so I was "crap! quick exit button, hurry!" because the jam had already started. lolol.

I had the same feedback as you though for myself...I was like "why dont I have a main menu button?" gyah! Thought it might be cheating to add before the jam was over. Def goin in later, for sure!

Thanks for playing and giving great feedback! My son did the music, im gonna let em know you liked it. :D

Super chaotic haha.  from the description I was expecting something similar to overcooked but I loved the direction you took it, kind of like a mix between overcooked and Tetris.  The UI and other indicators started to make sense to me the longer I spent in it, like the warning and death marker on the wall as it starts to fill up with food.  My only bit of feedback pretty much echo's everyone else's comments and it sounds like you already have something in mind for this, but controlling the pace of the game would help a lot, like having the difficulty scale so that while I'm still trying to figure it out its not so punishing, but I also get that its meant to be a high score tracker type game, so you could look at other games like doodle jump where the first little bit is pretty easy but the higher up you go the harder it gets.  That might get players to stay engaged longer as well.

Overall great work though, You seriously have a fun concept here, would be an awesome mobile game for my kids to play while in the car or something like that.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Yeah you make a good point. I need to take it slow. I want that anxiety feeling once it fills up but but I should slow it down and wait until the play gets comfortable before they start working that hard at it.

Btw, youre the first person to understand how the danger and warning sign worked. lol. I had a lot of provate feedback saying they didnt understand why they were there or what triggered the lights. Im gonna definitely have to have some type of explanation.

Like you said, you figured it out, but the problem is that I should have made it more clear in this type of game.

Totes loved your description of it - "overcooked mixed with tetris" haha. Im gonna steal that description! Thanks, you rock!

Woah so chaotic :D

I liked it alot, hard to get a hang of it at first though !

Developer

Thanks! Im glad you liked it. Yeah I think im gonna flesh it out a bit and have a tutorial screen and make it start with less customers and what not. I appreciate the feedback!

liked the idea, game was a little fast - would have worked better (in my opinion) if it was a little slower. I might just be bad though :D

Developer

Im starting to hear that a bit. Had coworkers say the same thing. at first I only planned this for the jam to help me speed up but I think im gonna run with it a bit and expand it out and start slow and bring progression into the game.

Very helpful feedback. Thanks so much!

This was a mood. Felt like I was on coolmathgames when I should’ve been working on an essay. A bit hard to figure out, but feels better once you get it. Good job for getting all the meta elements like title and scores done too! I know I tend to forget those myself 😅

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah I did a bad job on my last jam and realized I wanted to not have a little time to polish so I stopped two days early and only polished it. Im glad you like it. After the ratings, Ill add some variety and some instructions and levels and junk. haha.

Totally feel the coolmathgames vibes. haha

This seems like one of those games that would be fun if I actually knew what I was doing. Every time I try to drop the correct ingredient on top of a perfectly positioned burger, it always just ends up bouncing across the room out of the table's reach. Then again, I also don't play many of these types of dropper games, so it could just be that I have massive skill issue.

But man, if this didn't give me some serious nostalgia for SkyBurger...

Developer

Haha! Yeah I just realized I didnt tell anyone that ingredients only combine with meat and buns. Kinda rushed that part of it in hopes to stay more object-oriented in my approach. I might go back and fix it since I plan to put it on my website. Glad you got some old-school vibes from it. Thanks for the review! :)

A bit unique game mechanism combining match and stacking. I also like the hand-drawn style of visual design. The physical collisions and bounces in the game also bring some chaos and fun. Actually, I’m not very good at reaction-type games, the current speed is really quite difficult for me, but overall it is an interesting game.

Some suggestions:

  • You can provide some simple guidance before the game starts, explaining the control, elimination rules and scoring. Let users enter and enjoy the game more easily.
  • UI can be further improved, especially the menu and scoring panel, which can be matched with the theme and add some visual design.
  • The web mode needs to be optimized more, the delay is particularly serious, and there is a huge difference from the downloaded version.
Developer

Yeah I was going for a twist on some old familiar styles - glad you picked up on it. :) I liked your game art style too, especially the effects. haha

That seems to be a popular suggestion - I should really focus on progression next time - maybe start with making it work for one booth or something and open the others up over time to add difficulty.

The web export thing is a pretty new thing to me. Im glad you mentioned it because my computer runs the web version slow but others said it was fine when I asked them so I thought maybe it was just me. Im going to heavily research that because Ive ran into it before and it bothers me.

Thanks for the tips, I really really appreciate it. :D

Quite an original cooking game! I would have personally preferred if the game had a slower/easier start and then ramped up to the number of orders you need to do in the actual game. But for a prototype for an idea it showed exactly what it is really fast and that's good. Nice job! :)

Developer

Thanks! I thought of a bunch of cool ideas to expand upon it so if it gets some traffic I might do things like have new levels(like a taco truck or maybe an Italian restaurant) and could definitely do a better ramp up - possibly have customers walk into the restaurant over time or something. Love the feedback, I appreciate it! :D
