Not gonna lie, took me a minute to figure out what the goal is. It’s hard to gauge when the snake decides when to play dumb and. The more exciting parts where the emergent scenarios. I got trapped by a snake in a perpetual loop surrounding me in a square and as the levels go higher, the easier it gets since all the snakes are colliding with each other.

Yeah, I definitely should have made a couple of things more clear in the game. And the slightly wonky AI of the snakes definitely doesn't help with that either.

Really like the graphics, the lighting effects do a lot to elevate the design. Super clean.

The respawn mechanic is awesome and I wish I thought to do that for my snake game. Definitely adding something like that in after the jam. The slowdown is just *chef's kiss*

Also kudos for creating your own music during the jam!

yea, that spawn thing would have benefitted a lot of the snake games.

Thank you for playing! There's not that much distinct content in this game, so I had time to polish everything a bit more. Glad you liked the teleport/respawn mechanic!

Nicely executed concept, though with some minor balancing issues early on that made it difficult to experience what the game had to offer. Still, I managed to reach wave 20! Great job!

Yes, the way you can kill the snakes in the early game by luring them into walls (which I also ended up balancing the early game around) is definitely a bit unintuitive, which I didn't realize during development. Glad you still enjoyed!

I grew up on Snake so this gives me a big nostalgia hit. Great game with clean graphics. Awesome job!

Thank you for playing!

Simple but clean graphics were my aim, glad to know you liked them!

Very clean! Actually really good. I loved how simple everything was. The graphics are super effective for the game here and it all looked good. It was fairly addictive, I managed to get to wave 13, but then the game crashed. Some of those later snakes are real smart. Great entry on the reverse snake formula, very well done.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed the simple graphics, I tried making them simple and fast to make but clean (A total of 4 different sprites were used in the game lol). Seems like the strategy worked :)

I really like the concept, especially when I grew up playing the og snake game on my phone!

Thanks for playing, hope you enjoyed!

I got to wave 5!

I like the teleport mechanic! It's fun to try to outmaneuver the snake and trying to get it to hit itself or another snake.

I did run out of health quickly during the first 3 waves, I'm not sure if you had to purposely get hit to grow the snake and that's how you beat it but by wave 4 I had only 1 health remaining!

But overall great concept I enjoyed playing :)

P.S. I also made a game based off snake :0

Thanks for playing!

The early game balance might be a bit off. There are health pickups in the game (not sure if you saw them), but they have a random chance of appearing each wave until the much later waves. More health pickups would also incentivise using the teleport ability more.

It's actually possible to trick the snakes to hit the walls without losing any health yourself - which is what I mostly designed the balance around. I now realize that I didn't make that clear enough.

I will try your game next!

Interesting concept! It was a bit unclear at first you have to make the snakes die! I managed to sit in the corner for about ten minutes without moving and the snake just spun round me :D But once I got the jist of it was quite fun!

Thanks for playing!

Lol, I really should have made it more clear how the game works! The snake AI especially is a bit wonky because the snakes don't move on a grid. I hope you still enjoyed though!

The concept of manually placing the next food is encountered for the first time in this game jam. This provides for more strategies.

Thanks for playing!

Glad to hear you liked the strategic potential of the teleport mechanic!
