Nice little game reminded me of some old flash game, think it was geometry wars or something.

When too many objects showed up, the game started lagging pretty bad and seemed that the strategy of just moving one direction away from enemies shifting perpendicular when new enemies spawned ever where worked too well and game got a little boring.

Maybe change the spawning pattern or have limits on the world so you would run into a wall or something, overall great submission though.

Developer

someone i know also pointed out geometry wars. i wasnt familiar with the game before, but yeah there is definitely resemblance lol
and youre right about the strategy against the enemies, its just something i didnt even notice before submission, and i dont think i could have come up with a solution and tested it before the deadline anyways. thats just how jams go xD
thanks a lot of playing!

7040 points! Though, I think the points weren't actually reset between rounds. :P

It's fun, like the music and sound effects, they fit really well!

Developer(+1)

thanks a lot!
yes the points dont reset between rounds as i wrote in the game description :)
that is intentional because otherwise you wont be able to see how many point you have as when dying you go back to character selection, i didnt make a game lost screen. that is also why the reset points button is there.
but yeah its definitely not ideal

Simple but brilliant design. I love the idea of simple shapes representing HP of you and the enemies.

thanks! :)

Fast and fun! I liked it!

I chose the triangle and immediately got swarmed and I literally lurched back in my chair and said, “woah woah woah”. Haha, definitely a fun and fast start! An incremental start may have been more effective in easing in the player, but it also help to feel okay with restarting, didn’t make me feel like I had to play through a slow intro bit. Well done on making such a clean and satisfying shooter. Some sounds and music could definitely enhance the gameplay however, always add sfx and music!! Overall, great demonstration of ability in creating a small but interesting shooter game!

Developer

oh thats interesting, are you not hearing the music and SFX?
anything regarding the spawning of enemies was left very simple due to the time constraint but yeah there is definitely more to think about how to make it feel smoother.
thanks for playing!

Fun little shooter but easily get overwhelmed.

Developer

yeah the waves are not very sophisticated haha
thank you for playing tho!

Simple and fun for a little while! I'm personally not a huge fan "trying to get high score" games but it really fits the game jam format.

As the other commenter said, it could use a wave system to be a little more intricate. One thing that could've been cool as well is if the enemy shapes had different weapon types or whatever, but I understand it would've been a bit hard to implement in such a small amount of time.

Otherwise, fun lil game! hope you had fun developing it :)

thanks a lot for playing! :)

A simple premise, though one that held my attention briefly.

Sound is a bit too low without a slider, and there appears to be a bug with transforming into a previous form but not going down the full hierarchy of shapes.

Might benefit from an explicit "wave" mechanic.

Developer(+1)

thanks a lot for playing and giving feedback!
i am not sure exactly what you mean about a bug where you dont go down the full hierarchy of shapes. in terms of the shape characteristics, when your hp is reduced, you will gain the new shape's damage value and movement speed, the only thing that doesnt change is that you keep the score multiplier of the original shape you chose. if you arent talking about that then i would love to know more details about what youre describing.
and yes a currently the "waves" are just a timer going off every 10 seconds, definitely place to improve in making it more explicit and perhaps more interesting with scaling :)

It seems to go Square > Square > Death or Square > Triangle > Death inconsistently? Though maybe I am getting multiple hits at once. It is hard to track.

Developer(+2)

yep ok i found the bug, the invulnerable duration prevented you from changing shape when hit, but your HP still decreased.
pretty sure i cant update the build until the judging period is over, but i have fixed it. thank you for pointing it out!
