Okay, soooo... I like the game. I really wish there was more to it because I can see this kind of game becoming addicting very quickly with the right amount of content. So, I commend you on that because I just wanna play more and progress more but I became so powerful so quickly I was pretty much done in 5 minutes. The controls, much like other people suggested, need some major work. it's not hard, but it's also no very intuitive. Even if this was on a smartphone, I'd like some sort of d-pad configuration. Anyway, I'd like to see more of this!
Edit: I noticed in other comments you worked on controls so I'll be sure to check that out.
Edit2: Played your updated version, while I can't rate you on that one, it doesn't change too much other than I like the arrow controls much better! Also, the extra enemy types are great, I could really see this becoming a nice progression style game given the time and effort and you have the core really well done so far. obviously it's far from complete but I'll be sure to try and follow your progression on the game.

It took me a minute to figure out the controls.  I was expecting the character to walk exactly to where I clicked, but after a bit I figured out that he moves in the direction you click.  Took a bit of getting used to but it worked well enough once I got the hang of it.

Is there no sound?  I didn't hear anything but it's possible my setup wasn't configured correctly or something.

Also, I couldn't figure out how to interact with anything.  Is there a controls summary somewhere that I missed?

I did like the combat system, specifically how the screen darkens to put the focus on the player and the monster.  Simple but effective.  :)

Thanks! No sound as of yet. Maybe I'll add something in the future. The  only controls are to move - click or arrow keys. The only things you can interact with right now are the monsters, hearts, and coins. It's a work in progress...

Great work and I see you are using Phaser like me :)  I'm digging the battle system.  A mix of a clicker and moba with the mouse clicking... felt right at home.  Slow at first but I gave it a chance and had fun with the game.  If you plan on adding more goodies, I'd suggest the enemies "see" you and run though a chase function of some sort.  Great job!

Thanks 3ee. Yes, I love phaser! Appreciate the feedback. I will be adding more to this as I have time.

The controls are a little difficult with mouse click, but the artwork is great. The battle system and inventory system are awesome. Simple and fun.

Hi Classicwook, thanks for the feedback! I did code in the option to use the direction arrows on the keyboard instead of the mouse, but for some reason it doesn't work on itch. It does work on my site though. http://darkwalllke.com/Games/SimpleRPG/ Please try it and let me know if you prefer those controls.

Regarding the artwork - it's CC0 if you want to use it. (I didn't make it) https://opengameart.org/content/zelda-like-tilesets-and-sprites
