Really liking this game, obviously not having a save feature yet kind of sucks.
one certain late game aspect of it remotely reminded me of axiom verge 2,  nice little perk you get there! :-)

Wish I could rate it, but sadly I cant cause I having programmed and entered a game myself. so itch wont allow me to rate the game. stupid rules :-(

p.s. you can secretly rate any game (even ones in jams) by adding /rate at the end of the url. e.g. https://justcamh.itch.io/soulclad/rate. That doesn't contribute to the jam rating, but still helps

Amazing entry. I really had fun unfortunately didn't manage to finish the game. The puzzles are fun and one can clearly see the effort you put into it. I hope you introduce soon the save logic - I will be more than happy to come back to the game. Unfortunately the game is a bit low in action and very intellectually challenging - that makes it difficult to stay for one long session :D.

Had a good time playing this story driven puzzle game, nice atmosphere and quirky comments throughout your journey make you feel like you are part of the story. Great job!

Congratulations on the publication! What a complete game! The SFX are just right, the AD is very effective, the dialogues break the 4th wall. Not to mention the moving brick mechanics which are very interesting and full of possibilities and the well constructed level design. Bravo for this very qualitative production!

this is definately the longest game jam game ive ever played and thats true even though i got loft locked without finishing it (let you know where on discord)

the graphics created a lot intrigue and looked very nice. the music was great and the sound effects were great to. it all worked together, making something atmosphereic.  this is what i felt the game did really really well.

i think a save feature was essential for this game. like thats not typically the case for jams but this game really needed it, especially when it was going to be that long

the dialogue was nice (the voices and effects on the font were to). thought the 4th wall breaking felt a bit too frequent but theres plenty that makes up for that.

it also controls well and the mechanics are thought out and easy to learn. the game did feel underwhelming at some points. i think one reason is because the puzzles were just so easy from what i played. maybe i just prefer slightly harder puzzles(getting softlocked was fun, that was a hard puzzle). there was a part of the game after getting ghost abilty i just killed myself over and over to get through what looked like puzzles. so that part mightve been easy because of that.

the other reason it felt underwhelming at times was feeling lost.

my sense  of direction is pretty bad as is but here it seemed to go through a loop of:

solve puzzle>dont know where to go after (the path splits or something) and feeling lost>see puzzle>repeat

i think the feeling of being lost (even if your on the right path) was apparent from the first area where you didnt have a map.  even though your heading towards where you need to, it felt aimless like you might be going somewhere completely different than your supposed to (didnt have enough confidence to stick to the right path)

when things opened up i was tempted to backtrack to see if a screen will now show me if i can do a puzzle but it would still show red. so theres a fair bit of backtrack but the screens were a brilliant idea.  they fit in with the world and seem necessary for puzzles in a metroidvania so your not over thinking something you cant even do

so in a sense they kinda show you where to go but not all puzzles have screens and i guess if there was then slaming them and waiting for them to turn on over and over would get old

thought the map screen itself was quite good and the big robot that was on it really made me want to see what that was

but this is all just how i felt up to the point i made it up to

this game is very amitious for a month and a really impressive entry.  really nice work!

Just... wow.

This is such a unique and clever idea for a game. The puzzle mechanics are so simple but there's so much potential for a full game based around it. The graphics, SFX and music all blend together really well to build a mysterious atmosphere.

Outstanding work!

Very good game! It's sad to me that playability of such a huge game is marred by a lack of a checkpoint or save feature right now. I played this one for over and hour or two, finally found the map and saw how much more I had to do and gave up for now until a checkpoint/save feature gets put in.

Ignoring that, wow! You have put so much work and effort into this entry! It's very cohesive, the graphics are great, controls wonderful, and dialog engaging and funny as well! This is probably one of my top 5, maybe even top 3 of this jam!

Hello. I got to the part where the ghost tells you to move some blocks, but the character is still lying down & I can't seem to move it or do anything else.

Developer(+1)

Shoot... I haven't been able to replicate that, only heard it from others. I'm updating the game tonight, I'll try to fix this then

I tried out version 1.0 (Win64 by the way) & got past the ghost, but ran into several glitches a little while later. I got to this part in the screenshot and was standing on top of some invisible space above the platform. After that, I went left and something weird happened were I kept re-entering the room over and over if tried to hold left. Then when I came back to the previous part, I couldn't swipe the block anymore. I left the room from the bottom and came back and the block worked again, but when I tried to swipe it left while hanging on the side, I ended up stuck inside the block and couldn't do anything. It got the same glitch again where you couldn't swipe it anymore.

Yes unfortunately the roof got cut out of that room... somehow. To enter the next room, follow along the floor, as in drop all the way down then go left. Uploads aren't locked yet, so I'll do a few small bug fixes that slipped under the rug in testing

I also wanted to give a little feedback besides just reporting bugs. I really liked the music and all the visual effects. It had a polished feel thanks to those, even though the art wasn't detailed. I like the swiping mechanic a lot, and the TVs showing whether or not you can pass an area is a really good idea for a metroidvania.

The dialogue was a bit too wordy for me. The only other criticism I have besides the bugs is pressing up to jump, I never like that. I used joytokey to map the controls to a gamepad while I played & I had to map both W and Space since W climbed and Space moved dialogue. I didn't map W to up on the d-pad though because of my preference. It's not a big deal in a game jam game since we don't have enough time to make customizable controls and do everything else needed to make the controls feel perfect.

I enjoyed the game while I was playing & wanted to keep going. If you fix the bugs later on, I will definitely check it out!
