Love the atmosphere of this game, managing the size of your light was also a great mechanic.
Super fun experience =)

Thank you Wompa :) We have some fun new changes coming up soon to make the the lantern a bit more interesting (along with some other balance, atmosphere, and polish changes).  We'll be releasing that build as soon as the voting period for the MVM jam ends.

Very nice experience! The game has nice atmosphere and if a little bit of polish and minor features were introduced it would be great game! I completely agree with other's feedback:

- it would be nice if I wouldn't have to keep the aiming button.

- it would be amazing to have a indication that enemy is somewhere nearby - when enemy is visible it is often already too late to react.

- maybe aiming towards mouse pointer?

Good job :)

I recommend the latest version of the game!

And if you enjoyed the atmosphere, the soundtrack is now available on bandcamp

Very nice atmosphere in the game. Love the whole cowboy and mine vibes. The enemies come at you fast, maybe a bit too fast. I really like the UI a lot, with the life bar, lantern and revolver reload UI. Like everyone else, I think you can do away with the hold to draw weapon mechanic and just have the shoot button always work. The player is a bit slidey on the floor as well, not sure if that is on purpose but it seems to go against the aesthetic of the mine. Also, it would be nice to use a pixel font for the default font.

Overall it's a very solid development though! I only played the beginning so far; can't get past the first "boss" with the shotgun.

I like this game! Especially the art and the music are wonderful! One of my favourite games from MVM 13

Developer(+1)

very kind of you! The music is actually available on bandcamp https://adamaudio.bandcamp.com/releases

really liked the music.  terrific whistling  skills

sound effects were also great and the game had great atmosphere

it was quite punishing though, couldve used some checkpoints.

alot of blind jumps and getting killed by things that run at you out of nowhere.  resulted in memorising where things are and alot of spaming shoot and reload into the dark while exploring

liked finding the brake, thought that was neet

also im not sure if the aiming button was necessary to the game? like it might as well have been held down the entire time

graphics looked pretty good, liked how enemies were animated. really added to the atmosphere

Developer

check out the new version of the game with a few quality of life updates!

Also if you like the whistling music it's been remastered and put on bandcamp with the rest of the ost!  https://adamaudio.bandcamp.com/releases

Amazing soundtrack, atmospheric setting.

The player movement is nice and smooth, but the other controls are clunky. Needing to draw the gun to shoot, and reload the gun would be good if it were a more slower paced more horror oriented experience, currently it feels like fighting against the controls.

The graphics are good and and animation is fluid. Music is paired nicely. Player movement is very brisk but there are so many different controls that it becomes clunky. Maybe consolidate actions into fewer buttons or explore eliminating or automating some things like turning on the lamp or reloading, combining two into one such as aim/shoot or fight/aim or fight/shoot depending on the situation.

Game is a little dark for me, but the graphics overall were nicely done with some smooth animations and the lantern was a nice addition to help set the atmosphere of the game. Audio was good as well. As other have said, the controls were a bit unintuitive, though.

Congratulations on the publication! The dark effect is well done but maybe a bit too opaque. The controls are really badly placed, it's not very instinctive. The AD is cool and the lantern mechanic is quite interesting, it's a good addition.

Developer

Thanks, we had a great audio designer! As for the music, the standalone version of the soundtrack is available on bandcamp as of today https://adamaudio.bandcamp.com/releases

The unusual controls made it a lot harder to play (don't get me wrong I love hard games but here it was already a little hard and those combat controlls made it even harder). I really loved the zombie-mine setting, the sounds and overall atmosphere of the game.

Developer(+1)

Appreciate the feedback :)
We tried to keep the controls concise and easy to access with both hands on the keyboard. We ended up dealing with some complications early in the jam and lost some playtest time.  Otherwise we would have loved to tinker with the controls to get it feeling perfect. Out of curiosity, what would you change about the control scheme to improve it?

Submitted(+2)

Maybe using the mouse - RMB to holster - LMB to shoot or simply keep the gun always in the hands of the protagonist :)

Developer(+1)

Great feeback :) I've added the controls to the Game Page for better play!
