Very nice! The airship design is very well made, the sprite looks gorgeous! Nice controls and level design. My favorite was the soundtrack! It combines perfectly with the theme and space environment style! I have one suggestion! The enemies (mob enemies) could have a little bit less hitpoints, because they are tough (robust) to kill.

Great game, very well done!

Developer

Oh thank you! :) ! Ok gotcha! (Add difficulties later instead).

Thank you again for the kind words and the feedback, really appreciate it!

There’s definitely some cool ideas here, and I thought this game looked and sounded great (even though some of the sprites felt like they didn’t quite fit). The RPG element didn’t really vibe with me though, andtt was a bit frustrating that I could only shoot in one direction when sometimes the level was moving in a different direction. Those feel like more personal complaints though and overall I thought this was a really neat retro-styled shooter. I hope you keep working at it. Nicely done!

Developer

Heya thanks man :) Yeah the sprite assest may not be top notch :D The RPG part is not fully developed yet, i think that you are going to like it when i get further on wuth the whole system :). And then not everyone can like everything so that is fine :)

I will add specials giving you the possibility to aim those enemies on horizontal scrolling parts too ;)

I am working on it as im typing! I hope to release a new version of it tomorrow :)

Thanks again! :)

Well, Cool ideas, (level up, get rocket) and fine level design. I would carry on with this project!  But perhaps: change music, and let the x-wing rotate! - at least I couldn't with ASWD.    continue!

Developer

Ok thanks, ah too bad you did not like the music ! Hm about the rotation...not sure if that is a good idea, i am however cooking something that will help on the horizontal scrolling :)

Thanks again! :)

Absolutely love these shoot em up games. I think you added a lot of fun spice into it! I like how the map changes in a course rather than a long straight corridor. It did add some challenge when your ship could only shoot in one direction. I think power ups for multi direction shooting could be a nice thing to add. Definitely gave some cool rail shootery like vibes. I really enjoyed it! Also found the music really awesome. The transition to the boss was done soooo well. It was very immersive. The retro sounds you had meshed really well with the gameplay. In general, I liked the retro sprites though some seemed different in style and didn't necessarily match each other well. Was a little more noticeable in the explosions. Art assets seemed to be a bit of a mish mash. That being said, they did their work overall in the game. I love the cutscene detail in the opening with the pilot getting into the ship as well. Really cool shoot 'em up that made me feel more immersed into the world than others with all these small details you have put in! Just what a fun ride it is! Just a blast to play.

Developer

Thank you for putting time into commenting, i am humbled! :) I actually think that there are TOO many upgrades in the first stage..but i wanted to give you guys the "whole" experience as of now until i go and rebuild stuff, so i just threw in all of the upgrades here and there in the stage.

Wait you did not pick up the multi directional weapon ? There is one there! :)

You are totally right about the art assets! I borrowed 2 enemy sprites from my other game Aria Disconnect just to fill in more enemies! So you are totally on point there. The visuals needs "make up" ;)

Thanks again man :) ! I am also glad that you enjoyed the music,  it was really fun to make, using the "restrictions" and the same-ish tools that they used for the real SNES. I really think i should continue building on this one..there is so much more cool stuff in the pipeline.

Submitted(+1)

Yeah I ended up picking it up on another playthrough. I didn't see it on my first one! Definitely a cool game, fun to hear you are going to keep working on it :D

Submitted(+1)

Great job! Feels like a legit PC Engine shooting game. The soundtrack is on spot! I also had trouble with max HP, at some point it was 192/172, but overall, no other issues. Cheers!

Developer

SNES shooter !;) Haha kidding, i get your point. 1000 thanks as we say in sweden. Glad you liked it man. Makes my day! Cheers!

Developer

I have noted all the feedback so far from you guys, i will fix them (TRY to fix them) later today/ tomorrow and maybe add the second stage too that is a Mode 7 stage with a different perspective..i felt so bad when i could not implement that one in time.

Submitted(+1)

Great style, I love bullet hell games and this was a really well made, hope you add some more levels in the future, well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks bro! this is going to be a bullet hell with a touch of RPG elemements, like Un Squadron for snes where you can upgrqade your ship after every stage, but with a experience system..i hope it will turn out well.

Super thanks for the feedback. Will try out your game too!

At the first launch, I got a bug on the boss, it just flew to the right and flew there (played the archive version):

On the second launch, it went without problems. The number of lives can be as follows: 177/172 (the maximum has not increased for some reason). Cubic decorations that run along the walls, as it turned out, are decorations that you can fly through, although they have the texture of walls that are not passable - this is inconvenient.

In general, it is played dynamically, well, the music and graphics are pleasant.

Good luck in development =)

Developer(+1)

Oops! dang, is that bug still there, damn. I thought i fixed it already. ah well, back to bugfixing that issue!

Yeah the hp bug, i know about that, ill put that on the the bugfix list too ^^

Ok thanks, the tilesets and assets are pretty crap imo, so this will be fixed later on for sure. But ok good to know! Just have to fix that then!

I really appreciate the feedback  :)  I could not ask for more than for people to just try the game out, but you guys commenting on top of that means alot.

Thank you!

I will try out your game soon too.

Submitted(+1)

I also remembered - rockets. They run into the blocks that the boss sends, and when they hit him (if not in the eyes), they just push, as it seemed to me. Perhaps because of this, with its growth and tremors, which happened. In general, pay attention to the missiles.

Developer(+1)

Yeah you have to shoot him in the eye with the rockets.. Ok good thanks! ill check that tomorrow :)  hopefully i will have a new version out with more content and bugfixes tomorrow. In sweden we are celebrating midsummer today so cant really get into working on the game now ;/.

Thanks again!

Felt weird that the level is scrolling but not my ship. I kept getting out of the screen and it gave me a hard time figuring out the controls at first (since I couldn't see my ship).

Otherwise it's pretty cool. Strong point : the music!

Developer (1 edit)

Yes the screen movement not affecting the players movement is by design! To make you move your player and give some challenge that way! But yeah,  maybe i should add the screen movement to the players movement. Good feedback! Do you mean that the ship bugged and went out of the stage?..

THANKS! :)  I will try out your game soon too!

Upon a new game, the ship starts out of the screen. Also the game starts full screen and a part of the UI seems to be off screen so maybe it's a resizing issue?

Developer

hm that sounded really weird, the game should not start fullscreen. There isnt even a code doing that?... Yeah it could be a resizing issue , hm. I have to look into that. Thanks.!

Submitted(+1)

I might be mistaken. Maybe it did not start fullscreen but just too big?

Developer

My screen size code right now is pretty simple.

.: In CREATE Event :.

viewWidth = 1920 /4;

viewHeight = 1080/4;

windowScale = 4;

var horSize = viewWidth * windowScale;

var verSize = viewHeight * windowScale;

window_set_size(horSize,verSize);

//then i set the surface size to the same values,

surface_resize(application_surface,horSize,verSize);

And then lastly i center the window to the center of your screen.

So there is no fullscreen mode when you start the game!

How small is your screen?

Mayeb i can add a "windowed size " property in that case where you have the options x1, x2, x3, x4 etc

Submitted(+1)

My active screen's resolution is 1440 X 900. You code seem to default to 1920 X 1080. What I do for my games is I check the user's screen dimensions with "display_get_width" and adapt the screen accordingly (simplified code below) :

var dw = display_get_width();
if(dw >= 1920){ w= 1920; h= 1080;}
else if(dw >= 1280){ w= 1280; h= 720;}
else if(dw >= 640){ w= 640; h= 360;}

surface_resize(application_surface,w,h);
display_set_gui_size(1920, 1080);
window_set_size(w,h);

Developer

Yeah I have thought about that but did not have that as a prio. Can implement that too. Thanks.

Nice sound! great retro pixel style 5/5! i like it

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks! :) !

A lovely fun little experience! Great work, I love the style!

Developer

Thanks for playing and thank you for the feedback and liking the SNES style approach! :) Really appreciate it.

Too bad you didn't get that mode 7 level done in time, I really would've liked to have seen that. The graphics could have stood to have more consistent styling, but eh, game jam time constraints - amiright? I did 2 playthroughs and on the second one I spammed missiles at the boss and they seemed to bounce around for multiple hits to get a quick kill. It seemed like that may not have been the intended outcome, but I actually kind of like when there's stuff like that to be exploited for speedruns and stuff on games like this.

I really would have preferred a zip file to an installer for this - at least for a game jam entry version. It's just kind of a mild hassle to install/uninstall when trying to play and rate as many jam entries as possible in a limited voting period.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback!!

Ahh yeah it was a shame..i actually finished the whole mode7 stage and everything but then other things clogged up my schedule ;/.

I will however continue on this orijekt and plish it. Its "ugly" right now with all the assets and stuff.. Assets and sprites really needs their time.

Yeah the rockets should only be able to hit the eye...i am going to fix that  when i get back to the project for sure :)

Yeah sure, quite right on that point :)

Ok sure! How do i go about doing that? just zip the installed game ?

Submitted(+1)

When you build the project, a dialogue box should come up with the options "Package as  Installer" and "Package as Zip". Just select "Package as Zip" and it'll make a zip file that contains the files that the installer would've installed. It's not the end of the world or anything, it's just a little more convenient to skip that installer/uninstaller step.

Developer

Ah right yeah.. i dont get that box up anymore, i may have to check my settings, thanks for letting me know! :)

Submitted(+1)

Cool! And agreed about screenshots.

Developer

Thanks man! :) ! I really need to check up more games here..been so busy, damn.

Submitted(+1)

I LOVED THIS!!! Totally was like an old school space shooter and the music was so good!! I was smiling the whole time, awesome game! You should put up more screenshots so people can see how awesome this is.

Developer(+1)

Ahh gosh..i forgot about that. Im in a middle of a move so i have not been around my computer at all :D But hey THANKS! Made me happy :) I will upload screenshots immediately. And also try out your game!
