Glad you're joining! (pretend you're joining if you're not joining) Here's a list of all the game assets that you can use in your Kenney Jam entry. As you know you have to use Kenney's game assets, except for audio and fonts which you can source from elsewhere - or create yourself.

  • Kenney Game Assets — All game assets available on the Kenney website, free
  • Kenney Game Assets — All game assets in the premium bundles, including characters
  • Patreon exclusives — Given away to Patreon supporters
  • Kenney Jam exclusives — Game assets that were previously given away

Unfortunately Asset Forge, KenShape or Kenney Studio cannot be used to create assets, as this jam is specifically about pre-made game assets.

can i create my own UI

Host(+3)

Yes, we’ve got UI assets available. All images have to be our assets.

Can we make changes to your art when downloaded it?

Host(+2)

Yes.

Recently started developing games . Your assets are truly remarkable @Kenney. Thanks and Stay safe everyone !

Just making sure I have this right before i break a rule, I can modify and combine assets but i have to use kenney assets as a base and can’t completely deform it beyond recognition, right?

Host(+2)

Yes that's exactly right, the challenge is to only use the game assets I've produced. You're free to combine them or create small modifications, however the end product should still clearly have the game assets in there.

Alright, great! Can’t wait for the jam!

Yes, you can use the game assets we've published on our site which are all free; https://kenney.nl/assets

This is my first Game Jam... Looking forward to be working along with your guys!!!

Good luck!

Can I get a couple of clarifications about the jam's asset rules? They specify "you must only use sprites, models, and textures available on the Kenney website."

  1. I assume we can use our own materials and shaders, as long as all the textures they use are from the Kenney website?
  2. Can we use simple code-generated solid colour, gradient or noise textures (e.g. in materials or post-processing effects)?
  3. When using 3D models, can we animate them ourselves? Or are we only allowed to use the animations that come with characters?

Thanks!

I am already wondering how much asset mangling is allowed, like if I chose to fuse assets together or change their color alphas would this be an acceptable mutation on the assets?

Host(+2)

We don't do any policing on how the assets are used, the challenge is to use only the pre-made assets - how far you take that challenge is up to you.

I don't understand your question?

I think they want to know how you make your 3D models

Hey there!  I just wanted to ask about animations?  Specifically on the 3d models.  I noticed , for example, you offer a zombie model but they only have 3 animations (unless you buy the bundle).  I don't mind purchasing the bundle to use them (if they fit the theme once it's announced) but I already have plenty of zombie animations ready to be used.

Is there a restriction on this as well?

Submitted(+2)

Anything should be fine as long as you’re not changing parts of the models too much, adding animations or changing colours should be all good

Host(+3)

Yep!

how can i participate

Submitted(+1)

click the join button on the jam page, then when the jam starts there will be a theme on that page for you to make your game with. Once you’re done your game you can submit it on the jam page as well

Thanks this is my first time participating in a game jam

I’m sure you’ll have a great time!

Yes.

It's like giving a LEGO to an adult. That's how I understand what this jam is about.

Interesgint.

Curious about if we can edit and mashup sprites, can we do the same with 3D models? Combining models and editing them?

Host(+1)

Yes.

Submitted

Quick question. This line:

“You can edit (i.e. crop or change the color)”

How does that apply to 3D assets? Can we crop a 3D asset? For example, if I want just the hands off a 3D character.

Submitted

Judging by the response to the above comment I’m guessing yes.

Host

Yeah that's fine.

Submitted

I'm curious, are you allowed to use the default models that come with the engine? Like the default cube an sphere?

Host

Try to challenge yourself and only use the pre-made game assets provided by the jam.

Submitted

Well, yes, I guess that's a little obvious. I meant it more in small, specific circumstances. Like using a default cylinder as an axle to connect 2 separate objects together, in case I run out of time to sift through the models.

Host

Well again, try to challenge yourself and either work around the problem or by finding an asset that fits - that's the idea of the jam.

Can use my own sounds? and can I create my own particle systems?

thank you

Host

Your sound question is answered in the FAQ, for particles you have to use the sprites/textures from our packs.

ok thank you

can we make 3d models and use 2d assets as textures?

Host

No, you have to use pre-made game assets.
