Simple but nice! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the GBJam 5 games, if you'd like to take a look :)

Daschund You caught me! I'm the composer, and I was looking for a contemplative sound, and of course that's what came to mind. But of course I took it in the dark dungeon direction. haha

Is that the Jeopardy music? This is a nice little puzzle game, but it should be harder, with fewer solutions. Also pressing R should reset the room, not the entire game.

Nice entry! Congrats on getting your system built and a decent amount of content in, but I felt like the puzzles never really progressed in terms of difficulty. The block-pushing isn't a particularly unique mechanic, so you would have had to come up with some very clever puzzles in order to make the gameplay stand out.

A few notes:

  • On levels where the camera scrolls, the camera doesn't follow the 160x144 grid
  • The music loop restarts when you complete a level
  • Hitting "R" should probably just restart the level immediately instead of taking you back the main menu and hitting continue (especially since it's easy to make a mistake and overwrite your progress by hitting "S" instead of "C")
  • If you move in two directions while touching a block, sometimes it will get pushed into weird positions

Thank you for your thoughts on the game anarbitrarymustache. Matt is an easter egg character from another game(The Legend of The Lost Artifact) from which I'm friends with the developer. I didn't want the music to repeat in each level, but the reason it was like that was that I originally had the themes play at the start of the sections of the game (small, med, large), but I feared that the player would leave the game, Come back, press Continue at a level in which wasn't a start of a section, not hear music, then question if it's a bug. I'll probably update it with just doing that (music at start of each section) since it's unlikely that'll really happen much. I'm also still learning about level design and such, but I'm glad that I was able to have 15 levels in my game, and I'm still looking to improve :D

I found Matt's Bracelet! I enjoyed the design on the player character. I'm curious which one came first - him or Matty and is the original player someone other than Matty? Nice overall gameboy look and fell. I would suggest having the music keep playing through level changes. On the shorter levels it was annoying to have the song keep starting over so quickly. That or have more of a transition between rooms - play a "sucess" sound and a wipe or fade and then start the main music. I agree with the comment below about difficulty but puzzle design liek that in such a short period is incredibly difficult. I'm impressed with how many levels you had. This is more subjective, but I wish the player moved faster (esspecially for Matty's maze). He could then slow down when sliding the blocks (like you'd typically find in a Zelda type game).

Thanks pazuzu for your feedback :)

Yeah, the slightly moving box thing was my main problem for the game, so the only solution I could think of is change the collisions on the player and make the boxes move faster.

Also, with difficulty stuff, this is my first puzzle game, so I'm just trying to learn the rules of it kind of :)

Interesting game. Good graphics. But I haven't felt very challenged by the game. And so, with some slight ability you may move the boxes to any place in some cases
