Haha, fun concept. I got confused when it said I lost immediately and then I understood haha.  Nice pixel art :)

I did come across what I think is a bug on the 3rd level where I couldn't jump up the wall, and then occasionally it would make me fly up to the ceiling. I also got a bug where when i got hit by a razor it would just keep saying 'Retry'/'Menu' and no matter how many times i clicked Retry it didn't seem  to restart the level.

I think adding sound would be a great addition; some nice background music and a sound effect that happens every time you jump would make it even better :)

But otherwise, a  nice idea! Well done!

The flying is a mechanic I added to complete the 3rd level. You're flying when you press the up arrow key and when you accidentally go to high you lose. You're supposed to get into the higher gaps in the walls with that mechanic.

Unfortunately I had no time for adding sounds as I was on vacation exactly the week of the game jam and used almost every free Minute to even complete the game😅

Thank you for your feedback :)

Ah, fair enough then. Perhaps some further advice then is to try to add some explanation for any new mechanics added in a game; but it sounds like you had fairly limited time to get it out haha :)  (i also ran out of time before i could put proper explanation into the mechanics in my game haha)

Funny concept. Nice pixel art

Some funny sounds would go well with it.

Great job!

Developer

Thank you! I'd like to include sounds but up to now i've never worked with sounds so I couldn't include that in this one week.

Haha! I was so confused by the retry screen at the start until I realised! :P Very clever. It's interesting how your brain slowly adapts to going backwards too, though I still wasn't very good. The pixel graphics are cute too. Good job. :)

Thanks :)  I had to play the game so often to try if everything works but I still use the wrong buttons for moving sometimes.

Interesting concept to start the game at the retry screen and then play the map in reverse with reversed controls. For added difficulty, perhaps the character could move a little faster.

Further improvements: Currently when you do get hit by the razor projectile things it brings up the retry screen, however, clicking retry doesn't do anything . Or when you fall of the map, the retry doesn't bring you back to the beginning or back to the map so you'll have to manually go to menu to restart the level. Consider adding a type of check for how the player died.

Good luck with future projects!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Have you tried clicking on the retry button twice? Because the button reloads the scene and the scene starts with the retry screen.

Clicking on the retry button just closed the menu and I was left where I was originally. One time I dropped into the pit, got the retry screen, clicked retry and it closed it and I could just walk under the map :D

Developer

Oh, then that's my fault😅 Maybe changing something with the buttons right before saving the game wasn't the best idea.

I actually enjoyed the game. Started playing it and thought, oh this should be easy. But your brain is so trained of the correct directions that muscle memory always takes over and kills you. Really intriguing concept and I had lots of fun. My only comment would be to look at the friction between the character and the walls/blocks. It makes the jumping very iffy.

Developer

Thank you! I know about this problem but unfortunately had no time to fix it before I had to submit the game for the game jam. I also always get confused with the different moving controls and then wonder why I died 😅

Pretty nice game! I really enjoyed playing it. It was a bunch of fun. Keep it on :D

Developer

Thank you :) I'm glad you liked it. I was really struggeling with the short time of one week and unfortunately I couldn't finish everything I wanted.

Playing a game backwards really fits this theme and I really like the concept! While the controls being backwards does fit the theme, I felt as if they were not intuitive, making the game hard to play. Maybe introducing the controls at a slower pace could make it easier to get used to the controls. On further play, I really like your indicators for enemies as well as the wall jumping mechanic where placing walls will allow you to climb up higher. Nice job!

Thanks for the feedback ;)

I wanted to introduce the new controls in the levels but I didn't have enough time to do so, so I wrote them onto the project page of the game but unfortunately you can't see this on the submission page.  In the third level you were supposed to use W or the up arrow key to fly and  get into the gaps in the walls. But I definitely also want to use the climbing mechanic with the blocks you can build in new levels.
