I'm growing attached to these little creatures. I felt a pang of joy to see them back again.

I found this surprisingly addictive! It hit the right balance of enjoyable to interact with and tickling my spite gland. I do agree with the other comments on visual feedback, but it did get easier once my brain got the lay of the land. I hope to see these little critters in more creations in future!

Thank you for playing (and streaming)! Indeed, with the “stage” set for these creatures, there may be more games with them in the future. :)

As for the feedback:

  • Yup, more visual feedback on the player’s actions would be one of the first things to improve next.
  • I never tested the game on a numpad. :[ Keys 7 9 1 3 were never really mapped FWIW, not sure if there were other issues with it.
  • The ending messages are kind of an Easter egg. To get praise, you’d have to obtain even better scores… :$

Cool game, I'm a big fan of the music in this, and the assortment of little creatures is very fun.

Unfortunately my brain just couldn't wrap around the controls under pressure. I feel like this would work really well with a joystick, by my brain kept trying to resort back to relative movement controls on the keyboard when trying to grab or whack the little guys.

Thank you for playing! Glad you enjoyed the music too, it’s something that kept growing into shape, first from my mind while doing other things, then onto the tracker. Naturally, if I ever make more games with these creatures, the theme will continue evolving with them!

Yes, the controls were more joystick like because there would have been too much repetitive stress and delay moving from one corner or edge to another if it weren’t like this. Maybe with a bit more visual feedback it would feel more natural, not sure…

Really fun little game.  The grab vs whack is a really nice twist on whack-a-mole that I found really brain melting under pressure!

On my machine, the music played fine and it fitted the whimsical theme really well.

Some audio or graphical feedback to highlight mistakes would be nice - I kept having to check the score to tell whether I'd got them mixed up or not.

Overall, a really nice idea well executed!

Simple but nice. It does what it does well and has difficulty modes for more. I like the graphics of the little creatures.

Fun concept. I was very confused by the controls, for some reason my brain kept expecting to have to input relative motions from the previous position, instead of starting from the center every time. I assume it would feel more natural with a joystick.

The music on my test system initially produced a ton of noise like it’s playing garbage. After a while on the menu it cleared up, and the music was lovely. But once the game started it turned back to noise.

Thank you for playing! Yes, the controls were mimicking a joystick-like handle, as I felt it would enable greater navigation speed for the player (e.g. top left to bottom right does not require tapping multiple times).

As for the audio, I am not sure what it could be, but I probably have to clear more Adlib registers at the start of an audio track, to account for machines which do not do that by default (not that they have to, I admit!).

Cute little arcade game! You've got a title screen, in-game help, and end-of-game scoring. The randomized rules for each play are a nice touch. About the only thing I could ask for would be better visual feedback to show me when I grabbed/whacked the correct critter (like maybe extra sprites for each creature to show them being grabbed or whacked, or dodging an incorrect input). As is, you can only tell you've done the right thing by watching the score counter.

Thank you for playing! Yup, better feedback like that was in my original plans (e.g. creatures appearing flat when whacked; the hand twitching in pain if it grabbed the wrong creature), though in the end there’s only so much time and energy. :)
