Once I fully understood the core mechanic of the game, I started getting into the rhythm of it and progressing much more naturally. I think the game’s biggest strength is definitely the 3D environment you created. The world does a really good job immersing the player in the experience, and for me that was easily the best part of the game.
Surprisingly, I got pretty hooked and ended up playing for quite a while because the gameplay itself feels satisfying once everything clicks.
My main criticism would probably be the way the controls and mechanics are explained. The game throws a lot of information at the player all at once, and I think a more gradual introduction would make the experience much friendlier, especially for people going through many jam games in a single session. If the game guided the player step by step at the beginning, it would make everything much clearer and easier to learn naturally.
That said, I still really enjoyed the game overall. Congratulations, because I genuinely had a great time with it.
As for 72-hours jam, well made! The game lacks the progression but it's easy to implement when you already have core mechanics. Good job, keep it up!
What I really liked was the game design that you made; you managed to create such a unique and awesome atmosphere, which I really liked! I would've loved to see maybe using the seeds to discover new potions, perhaps, and have the ability to use them to aid you in harvesting more or selling them. I did manage to accidentally fall off the map and had to restart, so maybe add it so when we fall off the map by a certain y-axis, it teleports us back. However, I like the premise of the game, and I suggest you update the game post-jam and expand more on the game mechanics! Decent game!
It's a shame you couldn't fully implement your intended gameloop. Growing things underground from seeds found in a dungeon, and then making potions from them to sell them, it's a good premise! I could totally see myself planting a few seeds and then explore the dungeon while waiting for them to grow. 🙂
Cool asset, found a hole fell into the ground. Did see some ice cave during the fall and some models outside lol. After relaunching I went to the end and fell again. Could not figure out what to do.
Really pretty game and i would love to explore more of the dungeon. The gameplay loop was also pretty straightforward and enjoyable. I would love to see what you could do with more time, especially cleaning up the UI a bit and adding more content. Nice Work!
2 Positives and Negatives:
Positives:
- I enjoy the gameplay loop, the tutorial helped explain it pretty well
- There's so much potential here!!! From the gameplay loop, I could see a game similar to Recettear where you go out, collect things, grow those things, then sell them
Negatives:
- I was initially confused on how seeds work, but figured it out
- When foraging, it felt like there wasn't much to forage. I'm also not sure if I have to, because I have an infinite supply of seeds
Thank you so much for playing! We tried the best to complete in the game jam time but barely finished the gameplay loop and as a consequences the foraging wasn't properly added. The infinite supply of seeds is there because of the lack of foraging to allow the player to experience the gameplay loop. We had a lot of fun playing around with the idea, and like you said, it has a lot of potential that we'll hopefully continue to develop in the future.
With that said, what was your confusion with the seeds?
That's exciting news!
With the seeds, it might've been my fault for not looking at the furnace, because I wasn't able to see how many seeds I had until I looked at that furnace
