That was really really amazing! Even for being so short you really nailed the comedy and digging. I liked that you encouraged exploration through a second digging upgrade. The visual design was unique and I felt it worked really well with the game and the audio was good too! I liked the little puzzle with the pulley even though it took me quite a while to notice it.

I think the torches were cool but they could have a little indicator or something to notice them from afar, maybe a burning coal? I also think it might be good to have them stay lit since I ended up accidentally backtracking a lot because they burnt out.

The game is a little simple and short, but as a vehicle for the quite impressive digging tech, it's great. I finished it and even found the optional upgrades, enjoyed my time, so I would've liked a little more. Good job!

Love the game. the 3d models and art are really well made. the digging mechanics are unique one  that I haven seen in many game jam. voice acting feels premium. Shaders and lighting are nice touch. nice horror vibe, I was in suspense whole time thinking some thing will come at me when digging throw tight spaces  and felt bit claustrophobic too. just one con it was really hard to seen in the dark I got lost bit too. but that aside this game feels like it took 2 week to make and polish to best state. overall really well made game.

Fantastic experience, one of the best played until now!
As others said I'd like to hold down the button to dig too. Anyway fantastic humor, audio and visuals. I liked the puzzles and it was funny to trying to reach the upgrades

Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm glad you had a good time :).

Continous digging was planned as an upgrade, but I had to cut it last minute, as the jam was ending :D.

Let me preface this by praising you for the audio and visuals - the game exudes professionalism. That said, I must have missed some crucial step. I was expecting some more upgrades and found none, there was seemingly no consequence for staying in the dark and there was this rock on a chain that did... something? I ended up just mining aimlessly until the end cutscene. Reading the comments, it is safe to assume that I am entirely to blame for my confusion and I'm willing to give it a second try if you'd like to give me some hints. Overall very polished though!

Hey, thanks for playing!

There's no real consequence for staying in the dark - I didn't think killing the player and forcing a replay was going to be fun in this short of a game, after all how many times can you dig through the same pile of mud?

The rock lifts the gate in that room :). It's initially closed, might've missed it in the dark.

There are two upgrades - one for speed and one for digging radius. They both aren't on the main path, but aren't very hidden either. A red glow gives them away.

I wish I could just hold down the button to dig.

What a good game in such a short time :D
The digging system is soooo satisfying to play around with !
Congrats :D !

I'm glad you... dig... the game.

Thanks for giving it a try :).

extremely well made would love to see you continue this project after the jam. Keep up the amazing work!

Developer

Thank you!

I might, but even if that doesn't happen, I'll keep using the digging system for other stuff :).

Wow , this was pretty neat! The voice acting makes it super professional, I liked the spork to add some fun to it, maybe a more satisfing animation would have been nice, but overall i really enjoyed it! you add the balls to make an actual digging system, you have my respects! Amazing work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! It was my fouth attempt at making a digging system, the previous three were complete failures :D.

Great little project. The digging system was quite nice. I think the digging speed could have been increased just slightly, as it feels just slightly like the digging is lagging behind the input. The fact that you managed to fully develop a voxel-based digging system for the title is very impressive, though.

Some things I did enjoy:

>> The casual humor

>> The story, albeit short, was quite fun.

>>The puzzle was very intuitive.

Thank you for playing and the kind words!

There are two additional Sporkmanship stones placed in the game world that upgrade both your digging speed (dig as fast as you click!) and radius - they glow red :).

Neat thing you have created. Visually coherent and a lot like "A Game About Digging A Hole." Exploring the what if of escaping a prison with a spoon. Of course this game would benefit from extending the length. Also if staying light mattered because right now as far as I can tell there is no consequences from staying in the darkness.

Very nic!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words :).

The player doesn't currently die - I've decided to only keep the player uncomfortable through the whispers instead of forcing to replay the game after death. If the game was longer, I'd probably make the darkness lethal and make some sort of checkpointing system.

A nice little game with a satisfying digging system, I liked the little puzzle and the voice acting was well done.

The dark whispers slowly creeping up on you in the dark gave it a good amount of unease and the torches was a nice little mechanic.

Great work! :D

Pretty cool! A little confused by the story, and it ended rather quickly, but that can be expected from a game jam game. The digging mechanic was fun, and having to keep the torches on was actually really nice, there was a moment where I was frantically digging trying to get to the next torches and that was awesome! I kinda see how the theme was implemented, but not really, I feel that if the game was longer then the story would provide more context for erosion, but alas. Good job!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I did have to cut some of the story, didn't have enough of the level to cram all the voicelines in without them feeling overbearing. There's the motif of the soul of the guardian slowly being eroded by the monster he's containing.

Also - you're eroding mounds of dirt with a spork, that's it ;).
