How does your game fit the theme?
Fritten and Kogg must learn to work together to overcome obstacles and to solve puzzles! Only if they become best pals can they beat the puzzles. The game can definitely be played solo, but you could also play locally -with a pal-.
Did your team create the vast majority of the art during the 4 days?
No

The text is so hard to see, if you show controls, try using a darker, contrasting color. Also, it wasn't explained anywhere that you could hold W to make the frog jump. It would've been better to add a tutorial that lets you play as the frog and kitten separately first (zoomed in) to get the player used to the controls, instead of just giving the player free reign of the camera from the get-go.
the style of this is quite cute, i like the names fritten and kogg for these pals :) the sound effects on them are charming though a bit loud, and the music works with the chill vibe. i eventually figured out on my own that holding down jump makes you jump further and that fritten could jump off walls but after trying to jump over one of the boxes it crashed and won't let me try it on firefox anymore.... well i booted it back up on chrome and it does feel slightly better there but maybe i just got the hang of it. got the high up coin in the first level! but yeah, wish the jump felt more intuitive, more immediate feedback on the input or setting it to automatically release at maximum jump.
Yeah, I agree they're a bit loud, but I was too tired by the end to remix them, which is why I just added an option to toggle them off in the menu. That's good to know about firefox, I hadn't actually tested the build in firefox so I'm sad to hear it crashed. Glad you got it working in a different browser though!
i'm confused as to why it was definitely working for a bit until it suddenly crashed and then showed an error screen for webgl2 missing even if i refreshed the tab, opened the link in a new tab and opened in a new window? maybe i'd have to refresh my pc or close all firefox windows first but i'm a bit lazy for that rn. but yea glad i tried it in another browser before quitting.
i checked back after setting
webgl.force-enabled
to true inabout:config
because i realized it was affecting other games and the game opens up for me on firefox again. still it was working before, so it's interesting something in your game might've freaked my browser out and shut its webgl functionality off.Super cute art and music in this, love the style and the voice acting 😉
I like how it strongly the jump mechanics differentiated the two characters!
Thank you! I had fun recording all the lines XD
it's really cute that you voiced them yourself! feel like that could be mentioned somewhere because it adds extra charm to the sounds, but that's just me.
this was a challenge but i love it! i wish the jumping was a bit more intuitive, but maybe its just a skill issue :p enjoy the artwork it makes me smile
Glad you liked it!
This cute puzzle platformer hides some tough co-op platforming mechanics behind a wonderful visual art style! I didn't expect to struggle as much as I did with some levels though.
Your visuals are super coherent, you have different kinds of cool interactivity (water+spikes, levers, boxes), and a control scheme that you don't see every day. Impressive considering it was just a 3-day jam!
Some of the levels felt like "Getting over it" due to how punishing a mismanaged jump was from the cat.
Thanks! I was definitely going for a bit of the feel of "jump king" or "getting over it" with how tight some of the jumping needed to be. And yeah, I really enjoyed making all the different interactions. I learned a ton from this game jam; I had never tried to make a platformer like this before.
Fun little puzzler! It was difficult but I managed to control both of the characters at the same time…just about!
Thanks! I wanted to make sure to include a level or two where you had to control both characters at the same time, for at least some of it.
Very creative local multiplayer setup. More visual feedback on the charged jump would be good for indication.
Thanks! I opted out of a visual indicator so people would experiment and learn to "get a feel" for how far they can jump.
I have no friends! Pretty good game though...
You can play solo! You just gotta get used to moving them at the same time XD
I cant say I was expecting a jump king puzzle game but it was pretty fun all things considered. I was i bit rough and could have used a better tutorial but for a 3 day game jam it was quite good! I do wish you made the art in the last 4 days though :( but its hey at least got a game finished!
Yeah, doing it solo I just didn't have time to make art myself, but I figured I could support some itch.io artists by buying licenses for the characters.
Totally understandable especially for a 3 day jam!
