Really enjoy your take on the Game Jam characters each time, it's nice to hear the music and voice acting as they're really good. I absolutely love Boyhowdy's lines, like a board game based on a kid's show come to life. I read through the rulebook and the gameplay looks pretty interesting, also chuckled at the unaddressed elephant XD

The game itself seems really cool from the rulebook, and I'm glad you uploaded what was done of the digital version. Even just the little snippet with Boyhowdy got a laugh out of me. The music is incredibly sick, and all the included voice acting is great too. Everyone involved obviously did some fantastic work, so I'm glad I got to see what was ready.

Really fun idea with great art, music & voice acting! Boyhowdy's voice makes me laugh each time I hear it.

Real shame I didn't get to play this one, but after looking through the rule book and seeing the little bit of the digital version you uploaded its clear how much potential it has. I really like how even the rulebook is taking jabs at poor Boyhowdy.

I look forward to your games every year and this year did not disappoint! I’m so glad you were still able to submit and I look forward to when the downloadable version is out. Also, it’s super cool that I could play with friends online! I’ll have to try that over the weekend!

Thank you so much!

The online pcio version is a little messy right now, so it might be difficult to know what all the pieces are for. I'm working on getting a printable version out before the post-mortems so I won't have time to organize it before the weekend, so if you do get to try it out, feel free to ask me if you have any questions!

I know Kyle said as much on stream, but Chibenobi's music on this is really lovely, especially the fourth track (the jangly one)

Developer

Yes they did a really great job. That track is my favorite too (it's meant to be for the results screen at the end of a game)

Even as an incomplete game, the voice acting and music are truly charming. The voices for the did you know facts felt like it was geared for kids, so good job!I can totally see this as a game for a kid's TV show. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Yes, that was the vibe I was going for! The original Skremplet IP was targeted to kids, I believe, so I wanted to stay within that demographic, even down to the basic gameplay (roll die, move, sometimes draw a card)

Specifically the vibe I was going for was going from Animal Crossing (the Boyhowdy game) to Splatoon (the Skremplet game)

Submitted(+1)

You nailed that vibe!

An interesting game. I started playing before reading Zoqls comment about the digital version only having animals in the forest, and tough you will probably lose a good chunk of points because of the state of the game.

The anticipation I felt waiting for the boyhowdy game to be overtaken or transformed into a skremplet game was far bigger than I think you would expect. I did at least two rounds around the board making sure I had gotten ten facts read to me before I started to suspect something might not be right. But in the back of mi mind I felt like some weird goblin was going to waltz in and interrupt the nice music and trow a lot of trash around.

So even though it did not turn out as you might have hoped know that what is here made me feel something.

Developer

We managed to update the game to showcase more of the music and voice acting, and yes your assumption is correct! The Skremplets are supposed to take over the board and play their own game (while Boyhowdy is still simply moving around reading facts)

Developer (1 edit)

Hey everyone. It looks like the digital version of our game isn’t going to be finished by the deadline. However, I still want to share all the work that has been done, and I don’t mind losing points in judging over it, so I’m submitting what we have anyway. At the very least, the playingcards.io version (a free tabletop simulator website) is available to play as long as you have 2-3 friends to join you, but it doesn’t count as a video game.

We’ll still be working to get the digital version running by stream time, because even though there is the art show and the post-mortems to share this kind of stuff, there’s a lot of collab work that would be difficult to show off in that format (talkin’ bout voice acting and music)

Though I should mention that there is a playable digital game on the page, it's just that the game is Animals in the Forest: A Trivia Board Game with Boyhowdy, and not Skremplet Scramble! unfortunately...

Developer

I’ve set up a pcio room for anyone who wants to check out what that version looks like (it’s kind of messy though). Just be aware that the room is public, so I don’t recommend using it to play with friends.
