Description
***

It’s 1983 – the end of summer. You‘re going camping with your friends, listening to yet another new-wave album on the way. Everything’s alright.

You reach a campsite near a large forest, set up tents, and light a fire. Someone starts playing a guitar and you all sit down, huddled around the warm fire, enjoying a calm evening in the woods.

As time passes, you start to notice strange things in the shadows: an amorphous glow, its source obscured by the forest. Beings from a parallel dimension are coming from behind the trees…

It’s up to you to defend the campsite — or this summer is going to end prematurely…

***

This soundtrack was inspired by the sound of the 80s – from jangly guitars of new wave to harsh FM synths. I imagine it playing in a game set in a supernatural version of the 1980s. I decided to blend three musical styles to fit this setting — new wave, folk, and synthwave.

To make this OST, I recorded my electric guitar and bass, and used my own sample-based instruments along with software synths.

Theme

One Summer Night

How does it fit the theme?

I really wanted more of this, this was awesome storytelling wise and I could perfectly tell when each track would be used in a game. The use of real instruments also helped elevate it and give it that 80s feel. Perfect sentimental but campy horror vibe that flowed so well together.

The first song was an absolute banger of a track I agree it feels like a radio hit. You nailed the ambiance and I could visualize the story as you were telling it! By the campfire had a bit of a long lead in but on reaching campfire defense squad, it really came together. This was a really fun set of tracks and you did great telling a story!

Welp, Max you killed it here! The 80s vibe is over the top awesome! Stunning submission here. It flows so smoothly and oh it speaks to my heart!! I wish I could write music like this. I guess I need to keep working on it! Beautiful.

Oh yes, this was great! I really like the approach you took with the theme, and I can easily imagine this music fitting the scenes you described.

Roadtrip has a very cool New Wave feel, using the traits of the style in a way that works really well. By the Fire gave me a calming feeling that also fits perfectly with the rest of the set. Campsite Defense Squad also carries that strong 80s vibe while nicely supporting the action, this one was my favorite!

The overall sound is crisp, clean and professional. I also really like how the three tracks together create a musical journey that connects nicely with the theme One Summer Night. Fantastic job!

Very nice mix of genres. Specifically the first song reminded me very much of the early goth scene music, which is its own pearl of music history.

Second song had a very nice feeling of calmness and safeness and also a bit of solitude which fitted the scene of sitting on a campfire in the wilds very well.

Third song is just a banger. Your choice of sounds fitted very well in creating the tension it needed while also creating an intriguing atmosphere.

Awesome job!

Ooh, instant jam the moment it started.

Went into full bass right off the bat. This is a really good job at getting that 80s vibe, better than a lot of those "Nostalgia" people, especially because you're calling to bands like R.E.M. who I absolutely adore (and probably influenced my track 2 slightly unconsciously in a way).

Fucking awesome, man, great work.

Ah yeah... "by the campfire" gave me some goosebumps.

Edit: thought I was done commenting then I hit the beat in Campfire Defense Squad.

Great fricking work dude.

definitely feeling the 80s vibes from all the tracks here. Musical highlight for me is Campsite Defense Squad, sick track loved the synth arps and drums.

VIBES. And not just vibes but all the songs fit together cohesively so well! I can one hundred percent see this in a video game. The mixing is great, the composition is great, super fun to listen to!

This is a good submission. Lots of variety and whatnot! Loved the percussion Campsite Defence Squad and I also just love By the fire. Great work man!

Really enjoyed this! The vibe fits the 80s-supernatural setting perfectly. The drums were a bit loud at times, and I’ve run into that in my own tracks, too. Overall awesome work! :)

OOH, the vibe!! I love it!

Road Trip is fun! The drums are slightly too high end for my liking, but that's a personal preference thing, the synthwave is a blast.

By the Fire is cool too, I love the campfire! No real complaints.

Campsite Defense Squad is really cool too, I found the noise at the beginning a bit too loud and grainy, but the vibe is so cool.

Other notes is the length, I could do with a little more, but that's cuz I love it so much.

Nice work!!!

Great tracks, create an atmosphere and immerse, but they seemed short, I want more immersion.

This is really my vibe !
I really love the synth/rock genre so this sound track goes directly to my heart !
It think the mix could be better with some compression maybe.
But the mood is here, the melody is catchy. Each track seamed cohesive together. Good fit for the theme

Very nice work! Each track is so different but good in their own ways.
I think you nailed the 80s vibe.

Live instruments adds to the charm a lot and the style in conjunction with the story is perfect. It really has a good summer in the 80's vibe and the music is catchy.

The first track is my favorite because it really felt like something I would hear on the radio or at least it would play in an 80's inspired radio in like a movie or video game. perfect for the setting.

Is this the new season of Stranger Things?

Good instrument choices and the crescendo picks up nicely as the campsite gets attacked. Starts with a nice alternative sound, ends with a pretty good bop and stays in the 80's for the whole ride. Solid job!

I really enjoyed listening to this. There's a lot of 80s-inspired VGM out there but you took it in a unique and interesting direction. The folk and synthwave elements blend really well together, and the instruments you recorded sound fantastic. I could easily see myself fending off some creatures to this and jamming out. Excellent job!
