I LOVE this idea, there's a ton of cool shit u could do if u decide to expand this! Like you said, holding a torch (maybe that goes out after a set amount of time?)... Also though moving lights, lights that flick on and off, glowing objects, spotlights, blocking/revealing/reflecting light beams around.... I lowkey might steal this idea and make my own take on it haha

Some critiques:

- It's hard to see where you're going, because of the low contrast between the solid black character and very dark background. I suspect you could make the "dark" colors much lighter, but still retain the effect and improve the readability.

- It's not super clear what the goal is, or where to go. I enjoyed jumping around between the platforms but I couldn't find a way past the first (or second?) screen, by falling off at different points or trying to get to the right edge. More hand-holding or guidance would make it easier to engage with!

Great job though, the vision is SOLID and I'd love to see where you go with it!!

Developer

The plan was to have the holdable torch go out halfway through lolll you predicted

Thanks for playing! Will probably make the contrast better, and better signs pointing to the correct direction

(btw for the second screen you can go right which leads to immediate bad ending, or go left which has a 'wall' but its dark so you can just go through)

OHH no i just hadn't jumped far enough to the right oops

Very cool idea with the light/dark platforming, caught me by surprise! Liked the atmosphere too. Sometimes I did not know where to go to progress.

Developer

Point is theres multiple paths, just every path leads to a bad ending. The "main" path is shown by the signs, maybe that'll be made more clearer after the jam is over.

Thanks for playing!

Nice little game. :)

I have to admit that at first I though that the collisions were just bugging out when I fell through the floor.

But yeah. This has some really interesting potential for a puzzle platformer.

Carriable torch, light switches, can imagine all sorts.

 Very promising concept. <3

Developer(+1)

Yeah, we'll continue it after the jam is over, and hopefully we'll be able to add levels with all sorts of these things

I was not expecting this to be such a cool concept for a puzzle platformer, it really surprised me. Hope you get to add that holdable torch section in because  that could really take it to the next level.

Developer

We'll try after the jam is over, the torch was already programmed we just didnt get to make any levels for it so it shouldnt be too hard to add in

Couldn't this work on Opera GX Export? You can export to itch io with that for free. Just target GX and "save locally as zip" and that's the web build you upload.

Developer

krys didnt know how to add browser files, i told her how so she should be able to do it soon

Developer

alr the html build is playable now

Indeed, only bad endings when going outside the light. O fire! I just wish there was a way to move the light so I could advance.

Developer

There is now!!!
There was a really gamebreaking bug left in the original build lol

Developer

I mean, you can't exactly "move" the light... we were gonna but, time is tight...

But you certainly can advance

Submitted

Omg yes the new version is much better lol! The one I first played didn't have any of those blue torches.

I really like the concept of only colliding with the light mixed with a platformer mechanic. It makes a cool puzzely-platformy game :) The music is pretty chill too. Good job on your game! :D My only complaint is that I wish it was longer lol, but I get it time is tight in these jams.

Developer (1 edit)

guess im getting better at music yippee

also yeah it got really tight i wish we could have added the moveable torch
