Awesome game! I didn't know whether I should be trying to die as the fish, or trying to avoid myself!
The soundtrack is great and the gameplay is really smooth! I got a high score of 78! It does definitely get quite tricky after a while!
I think there's definitely some really interesting improvements/developments that could be made with this concept too! Looking forward to seeing if this ever develops further!
Thanks for submitting!
Cant tell ya how many times i fell for the fish bait before i realized i was the dumb fish after all. there must be a REALLY fat smart fish out there somewhere.... nice art!
Never thought I’d live to see the day where a fishing game would have a breakbeat soundtrack which actually works in practice, but today is that day.
Sure, this game is unfinished, but it was a rather ambitious first project, and you still managed to implement the core gameplay loop presented within a fakeout - a rather impressive feat! Nice work!
It's an interesting concept, and the name is very punny. It definitely feels more like a proof of concept than a proper game, though. In particular, the lack of a clear goal (does the game have any winning condition in its current state?) makes it feel incomplete. The pixel art is pretty good, but suffers from not all being scaled the same.
For a first game, this is great, even if it is unfinished.
It took me an embarassingly long amount of time to get the "go, fish" pun lol. That's really clever.
Really nice game, and awesome first game! The art was super pretty, and the unfinished features are actually great for this jam, since they're the main SBIG part of the game imo. As a suggestion, maybe I'd make the bait obstacles have some warning time like the hooks and the nets, since sometimes they appear right in front of you and they're almost impossible to dodge. Then again, that might just be a skill issue on my part. Either way, great entry!
Absolute shame that you couldn't finish the game. It almost seems like the entire budget went into the artstyle and music which I thought were really nice
I think the twist with "Go, fish!!" instead of "Go fish." is pretty creative by concept and has a lot of potential plot and gameplay twise.
If you're ever planning to finish/remake this game in one way or another, even if you return to it only after making other projects, I'm wishing the best for you and your progress!
Love the fakeout idea frank! <3
Congrats on submitting your very first game jam entry, that is no small feat! I really enjoyed the cozy fishing town and retro vibes, and the arcade-style twist was a fun surprise. I played the browser version on Mac, so I couldn’t try the zip file, but the concept has a lot of charm and potential. I’d love to see where you take it if you keep working on it!
Ya really got me! Great fakeout and a fun little game
