Really interesting concept! A bit too grindy for my tastes, but definitely an interesting and cool idea. Great execution too! The lack of music stands out though, I think that would elevate the game further and make it feel better.

Cool concept! It took me wayyy to long to kill the tree lol :D

Submitted(+1)

Managed to kill the big stupid tree. Not sure if that was it or there was anything else but I had a ton of fun. I do not fear the random encounter, I am the random encounter.

What a neat concept! i hope you continue working on it with expanded mechanics (maybe night / day or weather for different creatures), well done.

Developer

Thanks! I will probably implement these type of mechanics when I get to work more on the game.

the art style seems good and polished, however, i was a bit lost on what the objective of the game was (is there some type of ending, or i just have to survive?), and didn’t fully understand what the point of the bait was, so i couldn’t try your game properly.

perhaps you or someone else could explain it to me, and then I’ll come back to try it again? i haven’t rated the game yet. sorry if its like really simple, and it’s just me missing something, but i swear i don’t understand.

Unfortunately I didn't have much time to finish up the game properly so the game at this stage is more of a concept/prototype. The game's main point is attracting enemies using certain baits rather than simply finding the enemies. You would get stronger and able to take down stronger foe/unlock newer areas but that isn't really well implemented at the moment.

Glad that you liked the art style and there is no need to retry the game at this stage. I am happy that you played my game either ways :)

oh ok! thanks for the clarification :). good luck on the jam! :D

Good luck to you too!

Neat concept - I really like the pixel art! This makes a great concept for a horror game too, maybe setting traps for the standard rats, rabbits, and slimes, then what you catch becomes progressively creepier. Might be fun! We know how much itch loves their horror games!

Developer

Thanks! I did lean quite a bit towards a horror idea. Itch definitely enjoys it's horror :)

This is extremely well made, I suggest and hope you don't drop the game and actually add more content to it and maybe turn it into something big.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! There is a possibility that I will work more on this.

The baiting and listening makes this feel like a combination of a creature collecting game and more in-depth hunting game. Having the animal spawns be contextual is an amazing idea. In an expanded version of this I would love to be able to find hints for how to get certain animals to spawn and to have things like weather be factors, to have some animals be rare but attainable if you have the knowledge. The active combat is also really fun. The only thing that isn't good is the death timer, it's just slapped in there and if you keep this going post-jam I would remove that completely.

Developer

Thanks for the detailed review and suggestions! I do like the ideas there and would most likely implement them in a possible expanded version of the game. The death timer thing is indeed quite rough and I did plan for something else, but I didn't have time to implement it and so I had to go with the timer. Thanks again for the review :)

Although a bit cryptic and challenging, this game has a very nice concept

Glad that you liked the concept of the game :)

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed your game. It did take me a little bit to understand what I was doing with the baits and such but once I got that down, I found it very fun. I like the UI and the sounds and eerie environment. My favorite thing is the listening to your surroundings mechanic, it's so cool and adds a lot of suspense and danger. Great game man! Also, if you have the time, let me know what you think of my game!

Thanks! Glad that you enjoyed it. I have enjoyed your game too :)
