really cool graphics and while i think it could be easy for the controls to be very unpredictable, they actually felt very nice! the gameplay loop is simple but enjoyable, great game!
Thank you for the nice comments, glad you like it! Will expand on the gameplay and make a full release eventually.
This game was fun! Its difficulty definitely reminds me of games from that era. My only real complaint is that the hitbox on the cat is a little aggressive when on the lower platforms that are in line with the death floor. I feel like I'd collide with the kill zone before I truly overlapped it with Moggy. Great game!
Thanks for playing and commenting. The collision detection feels a bit unfair at times, I agree, but to my defense that is the 80s pixel perfect way, no coyote time and such luxury. 😉
Or I didn't have time to get everything tuned in. 😇
Glad you like the game anyway!
Mad Moggy behaves just like my cat when it decides randomly that it is time to run at the speed of light.
Even though it is hard to master the controls it is still very addicting game(in the best way possible)
Also love the retro style, just perfect! + huge respect for coding in assembler knowing how crazy this actually is
btw this is my cat
Hehe, I have two kittens myself so I had some inspiration to go on. Glad you like the game and that the feeling I wanted to give made it through.
Do I wake up in between 80s/90s? Although I'm an Amiga guy, I totally feel the passion in this game! Great entry!
Haha, I apparently never left the 80s/90s - and yes, the C64 is my passion. Thanks for playing and for seeing the passion!
One of my favorites so far! I love the vibe for this—it's so simple and fun. Extra points from me for making this as a Commodore 64 game coded up in assembly, too!
Thank you for the nice comments and for playing. The C64 is my passion and while I have done a few C64 games lately (though released under http://pretzel-logic.itch.io) this is my first C64 game jam submission.
The fast paced design was well-made and the graphics are very retro!
Thank You for playing and commenting - it feels nice that a real retro game (i.e. made for original 80s hardware) still can work out. :)
Love the art style!
Thank you - it is what it is, given the Commodore 64 restrictions. :)
This was written in asssembler? Huge respect, i'm sure it was hard
Thanks, yes it was written in 100% 6502 assembler and runs on the original Commodore 64. Did it in 3,5 days (where of two work days) so it is a bit unpolished but pretty happy with the outcome.
Very fun game, i feel like the controls could be simplified to have one button that reverses the direction, and i found it was possible to hold against walls giving you time to sit still and think for a second, rather than the fast paced thinking that makes the game so fun. also when the moggy hits the bottom of platforms after jumping they change direction, which feels odd and got me stuck on level 3 for a while ToT. overall its a super cool and fun game!
Thanks for playing and the very nice comment. You are right about the "cheat" and that one button could be enough but it is also one of those things that (IMHO) balances the toughness of the game - maybe I'll change that for the future (and for a game jam you want the players to get as far as possible). As for the hit to the bottom of the platform, I realised this but I didn't have time to correct it (on of those "why didn't I think of that?").
Since there is a grace period for bug fixes, I have now updated the game to avoid the issue with reversing/stops when hitting the bottom of the platforms (fingers crossed).
I played it again and it feels much better! only problem is when you get the brown cat it can be a little hard to see cause it blends into the background, but its not too bad considering i got my highscore with it
Haha, the brown cat was also a bug, fixed now. But interesting effect - maybe something to implement for a proper release. :D
The art looks like some sort of game from the 1980s - 1990s and it gives the game a really cool look
Thanks for the conment. The game is actually made on an 80s computer, the Commodore 64, so it runs in the original hardware (or in an emulator).
Really cool take on the theme. Good stuff, keep it up!
Thanks for playing and for the nice comments!
