i thought this was gonna be a different game and then it turned into the game i wanted it to be so good job
very charming game. the core conceit is hard to get right, especially in 4 hrs, for the best of folks, and I think the game stumbles along the way. for ex: I wish there had been custom dialogue/prose when different combos of the monsters speak to each other instead of a bottleneck passage which just swaps out the names (as far as I could tell). But for 4 hours by an author new to the genre, it's pretty good, and having one theme disguised as another is fun! I also liked the drawings.
I enjoyed the creativity of the character designs and how the writing managed to convey two different things at once. I'm more used to playing parsers than choice games, and it was somehow satisfying beginning to see the web of pathways.
Spoiler so hiding under this tab
Well that was a bit of a twist! Always nice to be surprised when you think one thing is happening and it turns out to be something different. I liked that there were a few different monsters to interact with and decide who to run towards/evade/ allow to vie for your attention (although what happens to you if you let them take you is probably a little concerning even if you do make it into the urban legends). Although the twist is a arguably a “romance” one, it doesn’t feel like it leans too heavily into it, more like if you get caught you decide whether to keep you humanity or give in and be warped into something else to try something new.
I did find one small name-bug (game runs completely fine, it’s only a very little one), I can let you know where it is if that’s something you’d like to know.
