Fun gameplay loop, good graphics, and sound effects - the only issue I found was the text was unreadable in places - good job :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks friend!  Yeah the text needs a box behind it probably... It's never completely illegible since you can move around but that's definitely a pain point.  Will look to change this up after the jam ^_^

The visuals are quite nice; although the text was sometimes unreadable and I wasn't sure how many enemies I needed to kill. I still had fun though!

Developer

I'm so glad you had fun!  The text is definitely something I'd look to optimise :) I kind of figured it was okay as a proof of concept since you can still move around but perhaps I underestimated the frustration factor...

lot of potential ! good job !

Thanks gamer!  ^^

The pixel graphics are really nice!  The game felt a little weird for me to play, but that might be because I'm not used to 2D action games like this?  Not sure.  Liked the setting a lot, too.

Developer(+1)

Thanks friend!  It was a fun world to build.  Thanks for playing something outside of your usual sphere ^_^

Cool story and good art! The combat was a bit confusing at first because of the animation. I didn't know if I had to wait a little to attack again, but just smashing space worked xD It's a interesting concept, maybe you could develop it more in the future! Keep up the good work ^^

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much ^_^  Haha, if in doubt, button mash!  I will admit the attack animation underwent a little bit of triage to cover multiple directions with less animation sets - dang time constraints...

Nice pixel graphics - good job fitting multiple levels, a story, a hub area and even a boss in such a short time!! For me, in combat games like this, removing the anticipation frames for player attacks can give a more satisfying, snappy feel to the fighting instead of lagging that split second between pressing the button and attacking.

Developer

Thank you! It did get a little racey with level design only coming in over the last few hours...  Yeah I do want to muck around a bit more with the attacking styles, particularly I think an attack you can do while you keep running would be game changing - e.g. Cloud's running attack from SSBU

Nice game. Controls wasn't for me. It's just me. I am little uncomfortable playing with WASD, if given choice I usually prefer arrow keys but that's just me. Great game though. I will add one suggestion maybe you can use blue tiles as water that player cannot walk into or it will drown or as ice that player will slip. Just some suggestion otherwise nice game :)

Developer

Thanks so much for playing!  I did want to add completely customisable control options, but unfortunately that fell out of the scope of one weekend :L Perhaps I'll add it in a post-jam reupload for you right-handed arrow pushers! (I also typically prefer the arrows so honestly idk why I defaulted to WASD here...)

Funnily enough my wife had the same suggestion about the water - it's interesting that it seems to be so instinctively a bad thing...  I suspect it's the neon factor.

Great game! The animations are a little weird sometimes, but I like the art and the setting. Also the story is interesting.

The boss at the end scared me XD. Thicc squid

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed!  Thanks so much for playing it right through <3

And yeah turns out doing a full sprite sheet in a game jam takes wayyy too long...  I had to plan a couple of cuts for the sake of game completion >.<
