Do spikes kill you or spikes help you win?

I feel as if though I am the only guy who made a puzzle platform game where spikes actually kill you and set you back in the game, but just to be sure...

How many of you had a game where hurting yourself on spikes to progress further was a mechanic, and how many of you didn't?

And it your curious, you can check my game for the jam here. https://itch.io/jam/wowie-jam-3/rate/940682

In my game they actually killed you, but since it's about reincarnation they let you change characters. So sometimes they're helpful, but sometimes they mess up your plans. Here it is if anyone is interested: https://tyrannosaurus-games.itch.io/operation-reincarnation

My submission has spikes used to help you further in the game. Well, in my game anything that normally kills you helps you out.

i watched a streamer playing our game kill himself repeatedly on purpose and get confused as to why it wasn't advancing the game.

this game jam has broke people

Well... mine is sort of a mix. My game is one of the "jump on your corpse" games that at least 15% of the jammers created, the twist with mine is that you need to decide on which spike you should die because choosing the wrong one will block future progress :)

They're both? All forms of death in my game can be used to your advantage as the main mechanic is recording actions and having your ghost repeat them alongside you to solve puzzles.

In the level below, they just kill you. Bye bye.

Meanwhile in the level below this one, they are important for summoning your ghost to complete part of the puzzle.
