Wow! The polish here is great. Visually the game is super impressive. The gameplay is quite creative as well. Great Job.

wow I liked the art, the music and it's interesting to play it.

This is great! I loved the aesthetics and the gameplay concepts! The music and art is phenomenal and really fits the setting, and the way you did the lighting helps with that, and the puzzle mechanics with the orb have a lot of potential, and you already did a lot with it! There was a bit of missing polish in some ways (the camera peeks outside of the bounds of the map a little and you can fall underneath if you go left, the platforming can be a bit unforgiving, stuff like that) but all in all it's really impressive for a jam game!

Developer

Yep, I took out my previous fade to black code because it was leading to a lot of bugs, but unfortunately that exposes the camera movement when it goes out of bounds. And since the camera is based on the shape of the tilemap, I couldn't put a boundary on the left because it'd be visible, which I thought didn't fit the way the world was supposed to look. I think a working screen transition system is on the list of next immediate goals. Thanks for giving me the motivation to do that!

Great job! I think there's a ton of potential with this "orb altering the environment" concept. The game can feel a bit unforgiving at times, with some of the jumps feeling like they demand pixel perfect execution. This could also be because of the rate your temperature decreases, which doesn't allow much time for redos, or because you can't get your orb back after you throw it in some places, forcing you to wait for your cold demise. I'm very glad I persisted to the end though, because the closing dialogue was very heart warming (no pun intended).

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! Yeah, the game was designed so that you had to do it in one go correctly or else you would always die in some form, but it would probably be wise to consider other approaches since it feels like unfair punishment and doesn't teach the player effectively. I play platformers often, so I think I should have gotten other playtesters earlier to see if the difficulty was balanced. Glad you liked the concept!

I really like the music in this game. The visuals here are just perfect, but I did notice that the levels had a bit of missing polish (large voids). But other than that, amazing game!

Developer(+1)

Yup, all the levels were made in the span of 2 hours. Such is the nature of deadlines, oops. Thank you for the compliments though! The artist and musician were very happy that their work was well received.

The music fits perfectly for this game and builds the atmosphere. The dialogue box style matches the visuals without being out of place, but it is frustrating to see the dialogue appear every time you die even if it is only so often in a game. I assume it is because the level is restarting over and over when you die. Either save the fact that the dialogue has been read (can be a lot of work) or have a level / section just for dialogue with minor risk of dying (which is done all the time in games). I love the orb throwing and losing heat from it which makes the choice to throw a risk, I like that.

The warmth bar drains too fast after throwing it which is ok if it was towards the end of the game but not early on however if you are trying to make a game that is intentionally hard then forget what I have said. Any game that developed by yourself will be easier than for the player as you have in-depth knowledge on how to progress while they are playing blind. The level overall is a well-designed platformer, and it was fun to play. If you get the chance, play my game, Thanks.

Developer

You are correct in that assumption! The scene restarts, and I was testing out a new plugin this time so I wasn't sure how to disable it. I'll definitely find a way to fix that in the future. You are also right that the game seemed easier to me than to the people playing it. Based on other feedback, I'll be rebalancing it. Thank you for your feedback, and glad you liked the music. Music guy worked hard on it!

very fun mechanic, the warmth thing!  it's a great idea, although i think it could use a little tweaking. it took me a while to figure out how staying warm worked, but i eventually figured it out. i couldn't get past the first few levels, but that's mostly because my computer is really laggy. i'm sure the rest of the levels would have been fun! the pixel art in this game was absolutely beautiful. very nice wintery vibes.

Thank you for your feedback! I actually didn't realize some people's computers might not be able to handle this, so I think I will also look into optimizing the game so that it doesn't require as many resources. Thank you for your attempts to play it anyway!

What a beautiful game! Lovely artstyle and winter vibes. I couldn't make it past the first level though - no matter how close I was to the orb it wasn't keeping me warm so I kept dying really fast (not sure if I am doing something wrong). Great start for a game though, I hope you can finish it! And if I was doing something wrong let me know, I would like to try out all of the levels!

Developer

Hi,

Thanks for trying it out! I do want to keep working on this game if I can.

Yeah, the instructions weren't super clear. Your warmth will always decrease even if you have the orb; having the orb simply slows down the decrease rate. This is so that if you don't execute a level in the correct way, you will always die and be able to restart.

The first level is holding right and jumping over the obstacles until you reach the other side of the screen, where you move to the other level. There aren't any indicators that would tell you that, since many platformers have seamless transitions like that, I'm just not good enough (oops!)

There is a step by step on how to solve the puzzles if you scroll down the game page. If you try again, let me know. Thank you very much!

Ah that helped thanks! I was able to get much further, though I think if the fires could serve as checkpoints it would make the game a little easier and more like a puzzle - since the warmth drains so fast you don't really have time to think about what you need to do and you end up having to restart the whole level every time. Great game though, the warmth platforms are super cool. Looking forward to seeing what you do next! :D
