An awesome idea! Salt isn't something I think I would have ever really considered so its something I'll look to grab for a different idea!
At this stage some of the items are probably already listed. I think the main improvements could be on layout/information design - some things maybe to consider:
* I don't know if the salt table (weights etc) holds enough value for the real estate in the module
* The foghouse seems more like a design of a real location, rather than whats needed for the module to shine. I'd consider making it smaller and only include the elements that will value add to running the module.
* Readability will be improved with padding from the edges of the boxes
* The suffocation curse - I feel like this would actually be quite prominent. On reading the words, i went looking for a box describing it! I think it would value from being part of a larger overall box with both the rules and curse.
I would also strongly consider suffocation as one of the key content warnings on the front page. Its specific enough and likely a trigger for enough people that it would warrant its own callout
I like the rumors table and how important salt would be for this world. You could probably make a trifold just expanding on this table and its consequences!
thanks this is helpful. Design isn’t something I’m trained in so have been trying to wrangle things. Definitely will polish this up based on yours and other people’s feedback.
I felt that the foghouse will be central to the conflict and wanted a design that allows for Guides of add their own touches. I am tempted to add both a salt rules one page as you and others have suggested. I couldn’t fit in all the detail from my research and for the game I wanted. I am also tempted to do the same for the foghouse.
I’m now on the fence thinking I should fix the trifold layout and colours but redo the whole thing as a short booklet to give me the space I really wanted
You manage to pack so much into this one! Really love the use of salt, which is so often so integral to fairy tales/folklore/folk magic. Really love the mechanics around it.
I was not expecting to be considering the acquisition of and benefits of salt in a world covered in apocalyptic fog but here I am! Kind of an awesome idea in its own right, I could see just the ideas in the Salt "Rumors and Rules" section revised into something even more substantial.
The adventure itself has a really fantastic little premise and is easy to imagine as some Folk Horror situation that just hasn't had a movie made about it yet. Aces for that.
As it is with FatherFog I think the Fire Demon as a source of strife and a creature to pin an adventure on doesn't strike me as explicitly fairy tale, folklore, or myth in quite the way that first comes to mind BUT I really don't think that's a material issue given how strong this concept is. In terms of the theme of the jam that's been used to great effect.
Echoing some others I think the visual presentation is all that needs revision here.
so salt was the original plan prior to the theme being announced and so I fit in the fire theme around it. I feel that fatherfog at the 0E unfinished design is too hopeless and hasn’t explored supernatural beliefs and superstitions. I tried to cram as much as a little trifold can fit without going unreadably small on the font - I test printed it a few times to make sure I could easily see what’s what at a table behind aGM screen. That was a reason as well for the blue…it’s easy to see but yes thematically feels out of place. I err on usability over pretty because I have been there plenty of times Gaming trying to find that name or other key thing in the fly. And green for colour blind people is to easily confused for red. But yes it and some layout work is needed. A limitation is working in Apple Pages. Thanks for the feedback. I am now tempest to repeat and expand it in the larger adventure I have drafted that is more in line with Into the Fog.
Love the theming, narrative, and setting of the adventure. It’s easy to understand what’s happening and what the adventure is trying to convey. My only concern is the readability of the text and some of the colour choices. I feel a more refined colour palette, alongside more considered font choices and some additional breathing room within the text boxes, would improve the overall presentation. The text could also be made slightly smaller while remaining perfectly readable. Together, I think these changes would give the design more polish and elevate it overall.
Thanks CSP. When I print the trifold the colours are more muted than the digital ones are. So a little less saturation should resolve that - thanks.
And fonts, again on one of my screens they are tricky but when printed I - with older eyes - find them readable. Is it the “old wood” font I’m using in the text for names and such that’s of lost concern? Cheers
The font is reabable to me fine when sized correctly, I would say especially on the text that is bound by the box for the Salt Rumours and Rules, needs some padding either side, some more spacing, so with that in mind all the text needs to be shrunk by at least 0.5 or 1 pt and then given more padding between lines, i would also lose the blue all together, does't fit the colour palette and the aesthetic in my eyes.
