This is one of the games that I've waited for meme game, horror Garfield, "I'm sorry Jon" absolutely love it. Visuals and music plays along well with the atmosphere of the game. I couldn't really find anything that would badly affect gameplay, just some small bugs here and there, but nothing serious. Really great game.

Nice idea and loved the sound effects that you used to make it feel like a horror game. Smooth game play and nice visuals too. Runs nicely so good work.

Feel like using copyrighted characters like Garfield would require the inclusion of some kind of reference saying that those characters are not your own work to avoid any plagiarism.

Overall, a really nice game and I especially loved the designs of Garfield for the game over screen and the main menu.

Loving the spicy memes. Nice art, but I was confused on the gameplay. I got killed walking into a platform , also it would be nice if there was a way to quit inside the game.

Loved the art and the game play, a cool little story with creepy characters, a few game play issues but nothing game destroying e.g; i get stuck to the side of platforms,

Quite enjoyed this game, i must admit, that is also some pretty spooky drawing of Garfield!

The controls were nice, and rather fluid. Sometimes the jump didn't work, but overall was really fun to play!

Love the style, you've captured the "I'm sorry Jon" feeling really well! Most of the issues I had you've addressed in the comments so I won't go on about them. I do feel that the game over screen should take you right back into the level instead of having to go through the main menu and controls screen. I also think that the jumps were a bit fiddly having to stand on small raised blocks to be able to jump to the next platform, either the platforms could have lowered or the jump height increased.

Really solid entry, nice one!

Game looks great. The sounds are also really good. ( I love Jon's death sound) but i feel like the controls are a bit stiff and sometimes not responsive at all requiring a restart. Overall I like this entry and for a week it's pretty dang good. Well done.

Game looks very cool! Love the art work and visuals. Even the sounds are good.

I found the controls a little slow when moving. Could have done with being a little sharper and also I struggled to get past the first couple of enemies as they would all shoot things at the exact same time, and that combined with not being able to crouch or move out the way quickly made it tricky for me. But I guess that comes with the skill of beating the game!

Overall all, good job.

The artwork used here is amazing! I felt that the first section was too hard for someone awful at games like me aha but well done the game looks amazing! :D

Thank you very much Vic, the compliment to the artwork is much appreciated.

The difficulty spike was definitely an issue, I wouldn't draw that down to your ability. I feel it could be more playable if we were to make it so that the enemies weren't attacking at all times and to have enemies only really attack you when they see you.

A beautiful rendition of the "I'm Sorry Jon" (creepypasta? meme?) circling around the internet at the moment. The art of all characters is astonishing, but a bit of work could be put into the platforms perhaps. The controls are rigid, yet there is some problem when jumping off of platforms. There is also a high level of threats in the very first area, making it extremely difficult to get past the first screen. On top of this, the long game over screen, the slow menu and the repeat of the controls makes it all the more tedious to get back into the game. Would this be a project that will recieve further support, I would make respawning a bit shorter (think Celeste's respawn rather than Mario's)

Very valid points, thank you for taking the time to review our game Nemo.

Thank you for the compliments of the art style, that's much appreciated.

I can definitely see how a long restart time can affect the immersion of a game, and this is duly noted for future games.

The difficulty was definitely a spike upon reviewing it, and one way we could address that is how the enemies actually attack you, them attacking at all times isn't really fair, I do think if we were to have it so that bullets couldn't pass through walls and floors as well as the enemy only attacking you upon seeing you, that would lower the spike dramatically.

A submission that meets all of the requirements of a run-and-gun platformer, having a unique art style reminiscent of the Lovecraftian Horror style of Garfield that is very popular recently. Novel use of audio that contributes to user experience. I appreciate the permission received from the artist of both the cover and game over images.

You clearly noted your awareness of some of the bugs, but they are things that you probably needed to have addressed when implementing moving and jumping. Being unable to jump when walking into certain environmental objects requiring a restart on occasion is quite a significant issue. How much playtesting/bugtesting was done in the run-up to submission? When submitting any game project, you should give yourself a notable period of time solely to focus on playtesting. If you have a game that needs to be submitted in a week, it would be a good idea to allocate one day (~4-5 hours) to playing your game or getting others to play to find and fix any bugs.

Overall, the game is mostly functional but could have definitely benefited from more attention to the polish of the game. Great attempt, nonetheless.

Developer

Thanks for your review and time Charlie, I'm glad we attributed correctly.

These definitely could have been picked up through testing, and in future I'll be sure to allocate time to test, is the duration of recommended testing roughly 10% of the time that would otherwise have been spent on the game, or is 4 - 5 hours roughly how much you would allocate to spend on any game?

To add to your comment I would also like to smooth out the character animations and add more animations to each of the sprites altogether. As well as a few changes to the enemy logic (shoot when they see you, bullets don't go through walls/floors etc.).

A comment I noticed which could also help the enjoyability of the game, especially a game that could be difficult would be the ability to restart faster/easier.

I perhaps shouldn't have given a fixed time as it is largely dependent on how you have implemented mechanics etc.. 10% of project time seems relatively appropriate but this will vary wildly depending on the title. I stated a "day", as with 4 people all playing the game repeatedly for that period of time, most core issues/bugs could be found and addressed relatively quickly. A nice rule of thumb is the bigger the project, the bigger proportion of your time you should spend on playtesting.

Its a unique ill give it that, kinda reminds me of the games linked to HP Lovecraft. The gameplay is a bit janky is some areas but overall it provides an enjoyable experience and is overall is a good game. If I were to name a few critiques it would be around jumping, sometimes it doesn't work and smashing space bar near a wall shoots you to the moon.

Developer

Thanks Yerduso, we'll be sure to polish up our coding skills and allow for more time to test in the future to ensure we do not have these sorts of issues in the future.

Jon's bizarre Adventures with gerfield.

Garfield is unbreakable.

Easily some of the most disturbing Garfield pixel art I've ever seen. I love the game over scene.

Developer

The game fundamentally works which is good and is not a bad attempt especially given the time limit, albeit it is a bit difficult.

Some things I feel could be worked on:

A lot of work could be done with the animations of the sprites as well as some additional animations for jumping and deaths rather than them just disappearing.

The mouse control hadn't been shown on the instructions page that it does not work, the bullets do not go as far as I feel that they should, as well as bullets going through obstacles. Enemies fire at all times at set intervals, maybe this could be adjusted so that they fire when they see you.

Bugs noticed:

Jumping randomly stops working seemingly when you walk into an obstacle.

Jumping doesn't seem to register sometimes, or perhaps it's certain locations.
