Wow,  awesome arrangement and production here! You really captured a very specific vibe. I was groovin' to that bassline and you managed to somehow find the perfect "skeletal" xylophone sound, not to mention having another type of xylophone-ish instrument, too, which was a nice contrast. The drums and cymbals felt just right, not overpowering the mix, but solid. I also liked how near the end the brass section opened up a bit -- my one critique is I would have liked to have heard you lean into that even more and amp up those jazz elements to the point they almost come off the rails. You know, really drive home the wildness of a skeleton band playing like there's no tomorrow... but that's probably a personal preference and outside the scope of what you were intending for the piece 😅. Overall, this is clearly pro-level stuff, nice work!

Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful response. I completely agree that turning up the groove and almost going off the rails would have been really fun! I should have done that, but I think I was intending to tone down the energy so that the loop is smoother. I didn't end up submitting it in loop form though so a bigger ending would have made this even better! I appreciate your feedback!

Hey, I appreciate you taking what I said to heart -- the ending is totally understandable in the context of originally going for a loop. Like I said: the piece was already great, and my critique was basically just me being greedy and wanting *MOAR* 😆

I'm sure you got more great stuff coming down the pike -- best of luck with your future projects! 🎷

Totally want to dance here! I think you nailed the strength of the xylophone with the repeated mallet strokes which give a smooth ripple effect. The inclusion of brass gives it some big band overtones which really adds to the party feeling. There is so much going on here with some subtle string wailing and sophisticated rhythmic play, but the overall effect is a great sense of movement. The duet between the musical saw (?) and the xylophone was a very spooky interlude before the final dive into bone jive. Thanks!

This is such a poetic interpretation of my song. Thank you so much for the comment, Chrono! I think the musical saw is the theremin synth effect that I used. :)

Now that's a song!! Though it is not absurdly spooky nor feels like 200 BPM, it is most probably my favorite song of all - and you're in fact the last entry I am rating! You got the holy triplet down: Chords, Melody, and a Beat. It is a song I can bop my head too yet can also get stuck in my head. It is everything I wish my songs to be! Great entry!

Damn... 1:31, no scrap that, 1:40 is a BANGER!

Thank you so much for your kind review! I also just want to say thank you for your commitment to giving thoughtful individualized feedback to all of the submissions. You sure have the spirit that makes these music jams so much fun!

Hey no problem! ;)
I love single-song music-jams like these! You can work a little while to perfect your song and then listen to what the other 15-or-so entries made. It is really inspiring to see other people's ideas, and it's generally great to receive useful yet nice feedback!

Oh, and congrats on receiving Rank #1 in the 'Overall Sound' category!! You deserve that :D

This is most likely the winning song here *insert clapping noise here*. I loved how the xylophone went so fast. It sounded like a tropical island party but spooky. At 1:14 that "woooo" part was funny yet fit the song perfectly. How you got all the instruments to cooperate, I have no idea. Plus, this was made in a WEEK. It sounds like Pixar level stuff, it does. Very good song, hope you win, if I don't muahahhaahha.

Wow, Pixar-level is high praise. Thank you for your kind words! And also thank you so much for putting such thoughtful and detailed responses on so many of the submissions! That type of support of others makes these jams so much fun.
