Wow, this was such a fun game and a great idea for a puzzle. The music is brilliant, and I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into this! Bravo team!

I spent over 30 minutes playing with this book. XD
As others have said, a few puzzles are too obtuse, but it's a puzzle box, and fiddling with it was a ton of fun. Got the fire and tree freed, stuck on goblin/fae/3-in-1. A few rounds of polish and hint giving and you'll get the kinks out. THIS IS AWESOME.
Super immersive! Very impressive puzzle making - clever too. Love the art, love the music. It made me super curious the whole time. There's a great sense of discovery in this and there's something amazing to find.
I did hit a few bugs that made me have to restart a few times. I accidentally tucked the jar of jam under the page somehow and never got it back, for example. I lost the second to last slot as well. And I think a few things disappeared.
Aw thanks Boz! I appreciate the comment :)
And that's unfortunate you ran into those bugs, they had been recurring ones throughout the project, and I really thought I had squashed them. Turns out drag & drop between 2D and 3D objects is a little jank, lol. Oh well, I guess that's game jams. Though it makes me happy to know that you still wanted to finish the game and they didn't cause you to quit <3
This is a very, very special game. Through the entire thing I had such a powerful sense of wonder, i wanted to cry! Everything about the atmosphere is just so good, i couldn't help but imagine myself taking this point of view and actually being there, reading this book and figuring this all out. It wasn't enough there was beautiful art, the layered music...i had the biggest grin on my face when I realized. I've had the game open on the troll page while I write this comment.
All the little touches, like being able to close the book from the back and it flips over so you can continue to read it again. I really liked how the "items" worked, how you can really just drop them anywhere on the pages. It adds to the puzzle solving, it lets me gather things how I feel they should be gathered and approach them at my own pace, rather than something saying "it doesn't fit here, so it'll go back where you had it." Little things like that have such an impact on how I feel the game perceives me, it's wonderfully done here.
I hope this game, or at the very least the concept, continues in one form or another. "Solving tomes" is such an incredible idea for an experience. I love these characters and this world, I desire to know more! I hope the entire team is proud of what they made, especially since it's complete as well. Job well done.
Thank you so much for your comment <3
If you like the concept, you might like the game this was inspired from, Uncle Albert's Magical Album. It's abandonware now so you can play it for free, even though I'm not sure that you'll be able to find an English version since it was originally a French game. But maybe you can find a let's play?

Comments like *this* put the biggest grins on my face :)
I'm really glad you enjoyed it Carmen, and it really wouldn't have been nearly as good without your help with animating the book. Like seriously I probably would have wasted 3 days making something half as good as what you made in a couple hours, and with that lost time I wouldn't have been able to polish up the last couple rough edges. I owe you big time :P
Big shout out to the music which is enthralling, especially the lovely title screen. Everyone's efforts come together very well in this, just a great vibe here. Even with just a few pages, I do think it's pretty hard to get started! Maybe having some elements "unlock" over time would help, suddenly coming to terms with basically all of the games' "items" is maybe just a little overwhelming. All in all, a very strong jam game, be proud!
Love the art style and how creative of puzzle is!
But i can't finish this game it too hard for me. xD
What part did you get stuck on? Just curious so I can try to get better about designing puzzles for the future :p
i freed the "fae" and "troll" am trying to free "three and one" but it need ice maybe? and i can't find ice, The fire demon i can't solve any of it xd. the last one "Blood tree" i just give a blood and am stuck too.
Ah, well I mentioned this in another comment, but you need either information or an item from all the other pages to free three and one, so do that one last.
For the blood tree you need to solve the dial puzzle with the music instruments blaring music.
For the runes, you are typically trying to find the opposite of the rune to break it, so for the ice runes you actually need . . .
I really liked the gameplay concept and the art direction this game took. I found the font used in the game a bit hard to read. Some of the puzzles felt a bit too obtuse to figure out, but also I'm a bit slow so that could just be me.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the concept & art!
I'm sorry the font was hard to read, we went back and forth between something very blocky & easy to read and something handwritten & therefore harder to read, and we ended up somewhere in the middle.
Also the fate of every point & click puzzle game ever is to have at least one obtuse puzzle 🙃 so it's not your fault, it's ours, lol
This is beautifully done. Lots to love here. Also, I know it sounds silly, but I really appreciate the settings and volume slider. I know lots of in-browser game jam games won't have them but it helps me set the volume so I can enjoy the music at a nice level. :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it! <3 a lot of work went into this game!
And yeah I totally understand that, volume settings are actually one of the first things I like to add to games because I can't stand not being able to control volume levels
I really like it, the art and vibes are on point ∩(´∀`∩)
I did the origional cast spells ending, but I couldn't figure out how to do the free everyone version (つД`) please write a guide somewhere so I can cheat and see the good ending lol
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :)
I don't know if we're going to write a full guide, but if you tell us where you got stuck, we can give you the solution!
How far did you get? Did you at least figure out how to free the Fire Demon?
I freed the fire demon , Laundry fae, 1/2 the troll foods, 1/2 blood tree, but for 3-and-1 I gave them the foxglove and it broke a few runes but none of the other flowers did anything like I assumed they would as the fae said something about all three setting us free 【・_・】 I feel like I tried everything but couldn't get further lol
Ah okay, well I'll give two small hints: you need either information or an item from all of the other pages to free three and one, and the blood tree needs one item and the dial puzzle solved to be freed
Blood tree, Fae and Fire are free ʕ→ᴥ←ʔ
The troll has 4 'N' looking runes left and I fed him everything I could find (inc jam), I want to give him Hawthorne as it says "most of it's edible" but he won't have any of it lol
Three-and-one has had Fae and Tree's item, so I think only whatever Troll says to do next is what will free them.
Have you tried clicking on one of the N runes? Something might happen
YES! I finished it!!! (Non-spoiler ending screenshot as proof lol) I had no idea to click on the specific N rune to do that part, I clicked on one earlier but mustn't have noticed the one I needed flashed red 彡(-ω-;)彡 it might be useful to keep that rune glowing at all times to highly imply it wants a click lol
That's a good idea! I might do that!
I know it's too late for your first playthrough, but I have updated the part you got stuck on to make it a bit clearer for other players! Thanks again for the feedback!
I loved the music and animation in this! The writing was really nice too!
One little hick up is that my screen sometimes glitches out bewtween pages. Not sure if that is something with my computer, but it was happening in different browsers (Bing and Chrome).
Otherwise amazing job!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
And yeeeeeaaah the game is pushing the limit of what is playable in a web browser, but at least it still works 😅 feel free to try one of the non-web builds we've also included (sorry if you have a Mac, they're a bit harder to build for)
