I like how unique it is that the mc is walking backwards and only shoots behind, took me a monite to get use to that but great idea.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! For sure it's a small learning curve, but it makes the game much more tense and blasting ghosts feels so much more satisfying in my opinion!

First of all mad props for making an actual gameboy rom. I also, as others have said, am into the idea that you aim in the opposite direction of movement. It took some getting used to at first but it is a clever concept. I liked the music although the sound effects were a little hard on the ears. Overall good stuff!

Developer

Love to hear it! It definitely does take some getting used to, and I think that's part of the charm. (It's also what gets my partner to keep picking this up again!) As for the sound effects, I didn't have as much control over them as I would usually like, but glad you enjoyed the music!

I really liked the idea of aiming in the opposite direction than you are firing. It's a simple idea on paper, but it adds an element of strategy to the combat system and gives the game a unique feel. You've done a great job of staying faithful to the GameBoy restrictions- I can see on your main page that this game runs on an actual GameBoy too, which is awesome, and kudos to you for going above-and-beyond in that regard! Awesome work guys, especially for just 2 days!

Developer

Thank you! I am elated by your feedback and I appreciate it so much! I wasn't sure about the aiming at first, but then when I started fleshing out the gameplay it felt right at home; almost like it was the shtick to draw kids to the game in an arcade!

I actually really appreciate that you fire the opposite direction you're walking, because that's a clever way to let you get away from ghosts without having to turn around to attack them. Good work!

Developer

Thank you, love to hear that you enjoyed it the aiming system. At first I was apprehensive about it, but when I added ghosts chasing you and then you had to watch out for the Floaters and think of the best way to get them, I thought "Yeah. This is hella unique! It's part of the challenge that adds to the fun." I guess in the end it reminds me of a twin-stick shooter without the twin!

It's realy recreate an gameboy game!

The art is awsome, the music is spooky and sond effects combine to much with the entire work.

The move and shoot are very original.

You realy made a good game here!

PS: you say 48 hours? ahahahhahaha. It's very impressive.

Thank you for the feedback! It's really nice to hear that you enjoyed it and appreciated all the little details, it means a lot!

PS: Ahaha, yes! I came back from a trip and threw this together real fast over the weekend. Wonder what apparition aspirations I could have come up with if I had the whole week :P

Fun and highly authentic! Aiming in reverse took a little getting used to but this is one of my favorite entries so far!

Developer

That's so great to hear!!! Thank you so much! I'm happy you had a good time playing!

Had a lot of fun ! 16 800 for my best run 8)

To be honest, I kinda agree with the aiming/walking backwards thing, but it's a bit tedious with the ghost that are following you at this speed.

Developer

Amazing! Love to hear your highscore and you played multiple times ;)

Nice feedback about the aiming and ghost speeds, I appreciate it. I would like to do a followup and it's good to hear these things from fresh folx!

The aiming is a little dificult to do. It would be nice to have any indicative of health of the player.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! For the aiming I was trying to go for something unique and different, and in hindsight I do wish I had a health indicator rather than the ghosts steal your soul!

I think it's awesome that this ran in my GB emulator. That plus the art and sound lend a lot to the era authenticity.

I disagree with the aiming controls. It feels strange walking backward the entire game.

What did you use to develop this? I'm looking to experiment with tools outside of Unity.

Good stuff :)

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it, and I'm glad to hear your feedback on the aiming! I was trying to go for a niche control scheme that would have made the game standout from others "at the time." (Hopefully there would have been lots of playground chatter about this one!)

To develop this I used GB Studio, a really neat suite that's perfect for beginners, proof of concepts, or those on a time crunch (like game jams)! Definitely recommend it if you're trying to get into Game Boy development!
