Hmm, seems like the web version may be a little buggy, haha.

The "press any button to start" screen worked, though. Just the actual game acted like this.

Unfortunately I don't have anyone to play this with at the moment and this is my last free day to review.

Developer

The web build is a little inconsistent, but the desktop build works like a charm.

You can use Teamviewer, AnyDesk or similar programs to play remotely with friends.

Heck I'll play you if you want.

The VA is absolutely awesome dude! That alone gives the game so much personality right out of the gate and it's so much fun to listen to. I don't know how they talk without mouths, but that is neither here nor there haha!

This really does feel like a classic arcade fighter like Street Fighter or Bloody Roar, especially with all the different attacks you managed to fit in. The controls are super smooth and you can do exactly what you want to do, which is so important in a fighting game.

Nice work on all the background graphics and the parallax scrolling too. It just makes the game feel more alive. Overall, it's a really fun engine that you've built and I'd love to see you continue to work on it!

Thank you so much for the praise, I'm glad you liked it! ^_^

I agree that the voice added a lot of personality. I don't think the game would have felt right without it.

great fighting game. Amazing technical quality achieved in 10 days without using a proper engine for this type of game.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! ^_^

Here's a fun little "Unity-ish" bug that made it into the submission: you can walk into, or jump on your own fireballs and displace them, because they have rigidbodies to collide with and destroy eachother. I didn't have time/motivation to research a solution.

Reaaaaally cool. As a long time player of versus games, your game gives great feels for a 10-day made game. :D

Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it! ^_^

I didn't have anyone to play with, but I like what's here as the bones of a 2D fighter. I can see some clear references to SF2. The character definitely feels like a kind of shoto M. Bison with the sliding kick and energy attacks/hadouken. Some rough edges, but an impressive start to a fighting game here.

Developer

Shoto + M. Bison is pretty much exactly what I was going for lol

I had two other characters planned, but implementing them would have taken a few more days. Maybe after the jam is over.

I'm glad you liked it! ^_^

Definitely looking forward to playing with someone else. I felt it was very reminiscent of the "feel" of early 90's fighting games. I also appreciated the different special moves and the various voice clips. Very impressive, especially for a solo project completed so quickly!

Developer

Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it! ^_^

I styled the game after Street Fighter 2 (released Feb 1991), so I'm glad I got the feel right :)

TeamViewer, AnyDesk or similar software should enable you to play remotely with a friend or loved one.

That narrator voice gave me the chills!! I find the voice very original! Controls are responsive, the move list is insane for a game that was done in 10 days, very good job! The sound's overall experience is great, the fx, music and voice!

The only thing I would point here, and please don't think I didn't like the game, is the 'Era Feel' aspect, I don't see it running on a nes/gameboy, but on a more evolved platform.

Thanks for sending out this game, put it on Fighting Game Jam and it will crush!!

Developer

The theme specifically states: "Most specifically, we want games that feel like they were meant to be on store shelves in 1991".

Street Fighter 2 was released in Feb 1991 in arcades, and ported to the SNES in June 1992.

The resolution is specifically 256 x 224, the same resolution as the SNES and Sega Genesis (which is the version I grew up with).

The sound is perhaps too high fidelity, but 1) I didn't want to misrepresent the voice work, and 2) I don't know how to "crunchify" sound to sound like older hardware.

I am a little offended, but only because I was very intentional in my choices regarding the style of game and graphics. I don't believe that I have misrepresented my game either intentionally or by accident.

I hope with this information you will at least consider re-evaluating my adherence to the theme.

Very fun! I didn't have anyone to play with but the controls feel tight and responsive!

Teamviewer, AnyDesk etc should allow you play remotely with a friend :)

I can't wait to play it with someone XD.

You put a lot of atack combinations here and, if you're not very proud of yourself, you should be.

The controls are very fluid and the lines are very synchronized. The music is very good and combine too much with the game.

I realy enjoy it. Thanks for the great experience. =D.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it ^_^

Using something like Teamviewer should enable you to play with a friend remotely.

Oh! Good tip!

I Will try. Thanks ;D.

I'm not an expert at fighting games but I'm not 100% a casual either. This controls just like I'd expect it to for a fighting game, and feels really fun. Obviously I wish there was some AI to play against, but for a 10-day jam it seems like a solid start to a fighting engine. Good work!

Developer

Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it!

I definitely wanted to focus on the "versus" gameplay, but I agree even a simple AI would have been a good inclusion.
