Very nice game! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the Pixel Weekend Jam #2 games, if you’d like to take a look. :)
I didn't have an NEC PC-9801, but it is reminiscent of some PC games I played as a child as well. I had some initial difficulty figuring out how to play (which I actually found thematically appropriate given my experiences with some computer games when I was younger), but I did enjoy it. I won without *too* much trouble, but it wasn't clear to me if there were differences between the schemes, the tiles that I was using them on, or how the different schemes and tiles interacted. If I'd lost a few times, I'd probably have gotten a better feel for any subtle differences. I think it'd be a good baseline to tweak difficulty and add depth via more pronounced differences in the schemes and tiles. Good job this weekend. :)
It seems to have been a lot of work! I had a hard time understanding how to play at first, but I liked the design. Did you make the music yourself ?
Yeah; I wrote the music in MML format for a sound chip (YM2203) that was common in the NEC PC-9801 computers that the game is styled after, and then I used a specialized driver and player to record it. Thanks for trying the game out!
Screen just stayed black. I could hear music but nothing on the screen.
Did anything show up in the log file? What's your OpenGL version?
Nice game, I get a Sailor Moon vibe :) and I really like the music too.
Unfortunately I did not find it really fun to play, it is quite hard to get into, and I did win without using any strategy. I think it is missing tactical options and difficulty. Maybe putting a limit on the number of schemes we can use at once could make the game more interesting, also making the schemes different. Still a very cool and unique game!
Super glad the Sailor Moon vibe came across successfully! That was what I had in mind when I made it :D
