  • A tower defense where you are hiring people instead of well you, very well done. having many choices for each tower was a very good idea. I really liked that the towers aged over time, so you had to stay on your feet and think ahead. The towers did age a little to fast for my liking, giving me very little time to figure out how they are doing. the art style really made this one stand out, it was a nice touch.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
A tower defense game where your defensive units are human and therefore have lifespans and costs associated with them that traditional “weapons” do not in this genre. Use WASD/Arrow keys to move around and collect hearts from enemies or elder units as you use those hearts to click on turrets and adopt new people. Come up with a strategy to keep the waves of enemies from overrunning your house!

You are a gun who fears other weapons invading your base and stealing your wealth. You know humans are creative and tenacious and decide to use them to protect yourself. The humans utilize whatever professions they have to defend your base.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
In this game you are literally a weapon, however you are pretty useless as a weapon itself, so we also turned it around and had the weapons be you (as in the ‘humankind you’). The idea came up from the juxtaposition of the literal interpretation of the theme with the absurdity of humans being weapons too.

The premise is funny and absurd, but the gameplay is surprisingly straightforward and intuitive. I dunno if you did your own art or not, but it is so lovely and charming. The style and colors are just so cozy and perfect for a TD game. It's a great entry to the jam, good job!

We did do all our own art!! We had 2 artists working together, me and Karurosu (a2karu), and it was our first time doing voxel art with Magicavoxel. I'm so happy you like our art, thanks for playing and leaving feedback!!

Wow, that's amazing. Hope you guys are pros in the industry because that is pro level imo!

Great style but I must admit the amount of towers thrown at you right at the get-go is a little daunting, especially since you can't read any stats of any of them.

Shows great potential, if you continue on it I would suggest railroading it a little bit with different levels, and unlock a handful of towers each level or something

Great job :D

EDIT: Also normally when I play a game about being reincarnated as a gun who has to hire people to protect their holdins I am unsure what the game is about - but when approaching  "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Gun and Had to Buy People to Protect My House"  I had a decent idea it might be a game about being reincarnated as a gun who has to hire people to protect their house

Absolutely, I was playing Bloons TD for reference when trying to design the game, and I think the way they slowly ramp up with introducing new towers every wave or so is excellent. Definitely ideal for our game if we ever go back to address it. Thank you so much for the feedback!! Also LOL I'm glad the title did its job

Awesome art and funny idea! The name really got me too lol. I agree with some of the feedback that it ramps up very quickly and is hard to follow at times. I think expanding it with some in-game tutorials would make the game even better. Great job!

Developer

Hahahaha I love seeing people's reactions to the name. 100% the game kinda throws you into the fray way too soon, if we had time tutorial would have been the next thing we did for sure. But I'm glad you took a chance on our game and played it, thanks for leaving feedback!!

Great art style! I really loved your start menu as well. Takes a couple plays to know what everything does so you can have a good run :)

Developer

Haha thanks so much!! Yeah ran out of time to invest in a nice tutorial and gradual ramp up, the game kinda just throws you in atm. But most people can beat it in 2-5 playthroughs. Good enough for a game jam prototype, we will do better next time :p Thank you so much for playing and leaving valuable feedback!!

I struggled with some performance issues which really sucked because the human character models were really charming but i bearly got to see any in action due to the framerate

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and leaving feedback! Yeah we definitely did not have time to focus optimizations, if we ever go back and iterate on this game we will def look into it, thanks again!!

Had to give this game a try cause of the name. The art is good and the concept is hilarious. I enjoyed it!

Developer

Thank you so much!! I'm so happy people like the name lmao, and also very proud of our art and overall concept as well. Appreciate the feedback!

Graphics are fun, and I love the concept! My slow laptop struggled with frame rates, but with a bit of optimization this game could really shine (even more than it does)!

Developer

YAY! Thanks so much for stopping by and playing and leaving feedback, really appreciate it!!

I love the name and the main menu art had me laughing hysterically! It was a fun twist on the tower defense genre and would've been cool to get to the point where my people retired and I presumably got to adopt another child (?), I never got there but did try!

It was pretty laggy on my machine so could probably use some optimizations. I kinda liked that it was non-stop waves, you had to make decisions really quickly, but also it was why the lag was more noticeable and more annoying.

Great job and a great game! I had a huge smile the whole time I was playing it.

Developer(+1)

Haha thanks so much!! I'm very proud of our game name and main menu xD Yeah we didn't focus on optimization but definitely understand there is some negative impact due to it, thanks for bringing it up!! I'm so happy you enjoyed playing it!

It's hard to figure out what specific tower do. Everything happens too quick...

 Good job finishing the jam!

Developer

Yeah if we had time we would definitely want to make the Upgrade menus larger with the descriptions, we were running out of time near the end :( I've added the descriptions to the game description at the bottom to help a bit but we definitely know it's a struggle in-game. Thank you so much for stopping by and playing!!

Really funny twist on tower defense games, watching my lil' children growing up into strong, specialised career warriors was mighty rewarding. The variety of career paths and the aging mechanic were both fun and fresh, the art is so cute and the music was fittingly funky; great job everyone on the team!

Thank you so much!! Appreciate you stopping by and playing!

I like the graphics! I upgraded as much as I could but eventually they got through! I know balancing takes a lot of time but you need to start slow and teach the player the game. Something to build on for later! Nice job!

Developer

Haha thanks so much for playing and leaving feedback! Yeah for sure if we had more time we would have loved to do a more slowed-down hands-on tutorial.
